[Blind Gossip] You are not getting the full story about this famous actor’s recent mistake.

He’s been having cognitive problems for a while now.

He shouldn’t be doing anything that could endanger himself or others. Even driving.

It’s unclear whether his problems are caused by heredity or aging or a a head injury or something else. Yes, his actress wife knows he has a problem.

Whenever they drive somewhere, [his wife] always volunteers to be the driver. He usually says no. He doesn’t think it’s manly. She has told him that she is worried that someone is going to get hurt, but he gets mad and says he’s fine and just brushes her off.

    I wondered why they were killing off Deckard so soon after Han solo. On the David Blaine special Harrison’s arms are pretty scarred up. Like he was using needle based drugs.

    Harrison Ford. As this is the 2nd plane mishap I wondered if this was early alzheimers. Sad. Until it gets bad enough for a diagnosis, there isn’t much she can do other than talk to him about it. If she wants to start a fight, she can refuse to get in a car with him, but I assume she doesn’t want that.

    Take support and guidance from medical specialists and support groups for whatever the cause may be (e.g. in the UK we have Alzheimer’s Society which offers Dementia Friends sessions for carers and family, drop in places for those living with dementia and is a key investor in research into the causes and prevention of Alzheimers in its many forms)

    Harrison Ford of course!! Calista Flockhart needs to have him on memory meds and let him know it’s ok…. My mom is suffering similar -since they are the same age. She forgot to lock her car went inside store, a man came and opened her door and took her groceries…. She refused to call police because she was embarrassed…. didn’t tell me till much later. She also forgot her cell on top of her car and drove it next door to my sis’s… Luckily all was good… then lost her car key..still in car…..

    Harrison Ford almost hit a passenger plane in his plane. Makes me rethink the accident he had a couple years ago.
    Calista should be very concerned, and if she feels he is a danger driving she and her son should not be getting in the car with him. She could also trying speaking to his doctor – if the doctor believes he is not cognitively able to fly or drive and his dangerous to others, s/he has the duty to inform governing bodies.

    She needs to point out a lawsuit could cost then plenty. Time to get help from actor’s doctors, as well. I don’t know what Cali law is like in this regard, but in my state, doctors can prohibit ill patients from getting renewed licenses.

    At this point, I think the answer is no. His license would have to be revoked for him to stop — my father is the exact same way. Stubborn. In his head he's still young, but in reality his health problems have been increasing and he's also starting to forget things…and if my mother (they've been together 39 years) or my siblings or I bring it up he's incredibly defensive.

    It’s tough dealing with someone in early stages of dementia, especially when they are in denial. The best she can do is try to convince him to get an assessment and try to get him to accept help. Occasionally it’s something treatable, so he really should get it checked out.

    How sad. My grandpa went through something similar, and I know it was really hard for him to let my grandmother do the driving. She might have to get some back-up. If a doctor and his kids (and the FAA) talked with him about it, that might help.

    Poor old Harrison Ford and his piloting skills. He has no business flying and it’s actually a good thing that he recently screwed up, as now, the FAA will yank his license and that’s the end of that. His wife doesn’t have to be the bad guy and he can go play golf or do something else and not endanger people. And, the FAA would do everyone involved a great service if they reported this to the DMV as well and got his drivers license yanked. He’s rich enough to have a chauffer.

    Time to hang it up doll. No shame in getting older and deciding to hire a driver or pilot. Plenty of shame in being so vain that you put yourself and others in danger.

    Wife needs to step in. Force some changes or take it to the courts to prevent him from killing himself or others.

It’s a tricky situation dealing with a loved one as they get older when cognitive skills are in question. Not to mention legal ramifications that could result after an accident. Insurance rates could increase significantly or the person could be dropped altogether. What’s most important is keeping everyone safe.

    Tricky situation. Older folks who have their licenses taken away for safety’s sake often tend to go down hill rapidly post-removal. He’s only 74 but this recent near-miss plus his crash on a golf course a while back makes me thing it’s time to give it up.

He almost landed on a taxiway, near a plane that had over a hundred people on it. A literal accident waiting to happen.

    Harrison Ford: the recent news that he may have nearly caused an accident while landing his plane. This is so sad. For a guy like him, someone who’s done it all, to go down this road must be horribly difficult. Happened in my family and it’s difficult for everyone, but especially for that person – they’re scared, defensive, and all you can do is help them. If true, I hope he gets/accepts help. He is not alone, and I don’t think anyone thinks less of him. Stay strong, I’d say.

    I think it’s Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, and that breaks my heart. I want to believe Han Solo/Indiana Jones is indestructible, but of course in the end, he’s human. He’s so active and does so many things that I completely understand why he wouldn’t want to admit he can’t continue as he always has, so here’s hoping Calista will be able to help him adjust to a new version of life.

      According to an airline site I frequent, he just passed his medical exam for flyers.
      Today he flew left seat in a private jet from Santa Monica. At least he had a qualified 2nd seater with him.

    When you read the transcripts of his recent flying fiasco, you can see that he still thinks he’s right when he lands…even though it’s on the wrong runway! She obviously needs to get someone else besides herself (like a medical professional) to tell him he’s got some cognitive issues.

    Yes, she can get his licenses revoked. Most people won’t do it because they love someone and don’t want to hurt their feelings, etc. that the should no longer be operating a motor vehicle (car, plane, etc.) It’s always in hindsight when someone gets hurt that all the should of comes out.

      oh my god…the recording shows that he sounded confused and told air traffic controllers he was flying a helicopter (he was flying his plane).

      this really is serious..just a matter of time..he should not put his wife and son and others at risk
