Pop Star Accused Of Assaulting Young Girl

[The Sun] A British pop legend is being probed by cops over claims he r*ped a 14-year-old girl.

The solo superstar’s bodyguard is alleged to have plucked her from the front row of a concert crowd.

The woman says the singer then plied her with champagne and attacked her in his hotel suite. She said: “It affected my entire life.”

The woman says she was a “naive 14-year-old virgin” when he pinned her down on a hotel bed.

The then-teenager was so confused she even thought she had hurt him, she claims.

She said: “I was very young, I had never been with a guy, never French-kissed.

“I couldn’t understand the grimace on his face when he was probably climaxing.

“I hit a moment of confused panic because I thought I had done something wrong.”

Cops have launched a probe into her claims and she met detectives last week.

The alleged victim and her pals had been given free tickets to the solo star’s concert in the 1970s.

They were spotted giggling near the stage when a bodyguard picked them out and invited them to the singer’s hotel the next day.

The girls, aged 13 and 14, went along hoping to meet the star and get his autograph.

But an aide separated her from her pals and took her to a suite.

A comedian, a female pal and a backing singer were relaxing in the room when the star appeared wearing a short white robe.

He led the girl to a balcony and put his arm around her waist while they posed for photos, taken with her camera. She has produced them in evidence.

The woman, now in her 50s, says: “He offered me Dom Perignon Champagne. I didn’t know what it was at the time. It looked like soda.

“You just feel you have to be with the crowd so I took a sip and thought it was the most vile tasting thing I’d ever had.

“All I wanted to do was get it down in one gulp then get it out of the way. That is what I did, not realising I was now drinking alcohol for the first time.

“Then he gave me another glass and was telling me how lovely I was . . . and you have beautiful eyes . . . I really like you . . . and he carried on with this flirtatiousness.

“Before I knew it, it was like an immobility had set in there and then. He had me down on the bed in one fell swoop.

“His gown was off. I was wearing a jumpsuit. He zipped it down and what had started as ­affectionate and safe, almost, was suddenly becoming painful and forceful, not comfortable.

“I was confused and couldn’t understand where the pain was coming from.

“It was just beyond me. I was very numb and found that I could not move. All I heard repetitively as he was pinning me down was, “relax, relax”, ‘It won’t hurt if you relax’.

“Those words have just stuck with me over the years.

“I never understood at the time what he was trying to say. I was very naive. I thought I had hurt him and was so frightened.

“My father was very strict with me — and I just knew I had to get the hell out of this place.

“I came to my senses, sat up, zipped myself up and got the hell out of there. I ran as fast as I could.” She fled to the exit but told how she inexplicably went back to the suite — because she had forgotten to get his autograph.

She says the star tenderly cupped her face and promised to stay in touch.

Only when she showered back at her family’s room did she realise her body was covered in bruises.

And she says she was left traumatised for years because she was too ashamed to confide in friends and family.

The woman wept as she alleged: “I had bruises all over my body, in my groin and on my neck.

“I had hand imprints on my arm and I was trying to understand what happened. I couldn’t. (My mother) said if your father sees that he’ll kill you so I just dried my hair and fell asleep.

“I woke up the next day and it as though nothing had happened at home. Nothing was spoken about and I got dressed for school.

“In my mind I was completely confused about how to process this. Was it a good or bad thing? What actually happened?

“The more I tried to speak about it — the loss of innocence at that time — nobody would hear me. It affected my entire life thereafter.”

The woman said the incident left her obsessed with the singer and wrecked any chance of normal relationships with men.

In 2013 she emailed her allegations to Scotland Yard.

The alleged offence, which happened overseas, was out of their jurisdiction.

But chiefs agreed to register the case for intelligence purposes and passed her claims to their counterparts abroad.

An official probe was opened by the police force abroad in August 2014, only to be dropped six months later.

But it was disclosed last month that a new prosecutor and investigating officer have been assigned to the case.

A spokesman for the prosecution service said yesterday: “We can confirm that charges were registered in respect of events which are alleged to have occurred in the 1970s.

“The case has been referred to police with a request for further investigation.

“This is with a view to enabling us to make a decision regarding prosecution. The docket will be further considered upon

its return from the police.”

A police spokesman said: “This office can confirm an investigation has been conducted regarding a r*pe case reported during 2014. It is still under investigation.”

And a lawyer in the city where the r*pe is said to have happened said: “The alleged victim is a credible witness with excellent recall of the facts.

“The key to a successful prosecution is finding witnesses who place the complainant in the star’s suite and who can speak for her childlike demeanour.”

    Same, but he was last accused (2014-16) of sexual assault of a young boy. Said to have happened in the 80’s. Don’t know what happened to the case, guessing lack of evidence. But IF this was real then would he go for both boys and girls?

    As a female who was the same age as the complainant in the 70’s, I don’t have too much sympathy. Sorry, not sorry. She went to his room and bedroom willingly, while he was dressed only in a bathrobe. Seriously, what did she expect??? The Seventies were a time of fee love, get it on, bang the gong. He was behaving no differently than all the musicians we know about from that era and their wild times and groupies. He should have asked her age.

      The complainant says that her experience was worse than had she been violently attacked by a stranger in a dark alley. Seriously?! Ridiculous. She wants money and publicity.

      There was plenty of this going on at the time even at my school. Teachers with underage students. It was not a secret either. Everyone grew up and no one went to jail. Different times, different attitudes back then.

      Without forensic evidence and/or witnesses, this case will go away. She needs therapy.

      She says she was raped, she says she wasn’t a willing participant. She was a young girl who did a silly thing, it doesn’t mean she deserved to be raped. There have been a number of these suggestions over the years about Tom Jones. Not that he slept with underage girls, but that he raped them. There is a difference.

    Rod Stewart is the name that immediately springs to mind when I think of a solo British pop star from the 1970s who is not gay. But he seems to be going about his life normally – like visiting a restaurant for Easter brunch with his wife, playing gigs etc – and doesn’t seem to be under police investigation.

    I’m going with Rod Stewart, solely because I can see him wearing a short bathrobe; plus he’s a solo singer who is still alive.
    Everybody else I thought it could be didn’t start solo careers until after the 70’s, and I can’t imagine Roger Daltry, Peter Gabriel or Eric Clapton in a short robe.

    Well, Eric Clapton a little bit. Ok, Eric Clapton a lot, but I sure hope it’s not him.

    Nevermind…It is Tom Jones. A photo she snapped with him in Johannesburg , South Africa back in “76. He is wearing the white robe and she is wearing a denim jumpsuit. She does look older than 14 but regardless of that the monster plied her with alcohol and took advantage of a child and her naivete.

    Sounds like Rod Stewart, who was a big solo star in the 1970s.

    What will happen depends on the jurisidiction and the local statute of limitations on sexual assault charges. Outside of murder, it’s hard to charge anyone with something that happened 40 years ago. You can ruin the man’s reputation, however, ie Bill Cosby.

    Augh! How horrific for this ,at the time, child. i have a feeling this is Rod Stewart as there was a bit of whispering about him during the time the very similar news about Jimmy Saville hit.
    Some of the comments about relaxing and it won’t hurt are reminiscent of the lyrics in Tonight’s the Night.

    Since he and Priscilla Presley are dating now, he will no doubt have her full support, cuz 24 year old Elvis was fooling around with Priscilla when she was just 14.

    Priscilla might offer to talk some sense into the victim, “Tom would never fool around with a 13 year old! Like Elvis he would do the proper thing & wait til she turned 14!”

    I’m assuming the legend must still be alive, ruling out David Bowie so …
    British solo pop “legend” from the 70s pretty much = Elton John or Rod Stewart, and we know it wasn’t Elton.
    The only other possibilities I can think of (if we expand the idea of “pop” to include folk rock and blues rock): Cat Stevens and Steve Winwood.
    I’m going with Rod Stewart.

    Tom jones, there were similar accusation against him a year or so ago. The case is pretty cold, no hard evidence so will probably not go anywhere. But who knows. The victim’s mother should have taken her daughter to see a doctor instead of covering things up. Sad.

    I started to guess Mick Jagger from The Rolling Stones at first but he didn’t go solo until the 80s so my next guess was someone from the Beatles…they split in 1970 so I’d say Paul McCartney…he toured as a solo artist all over Europe in 1972. If these accusations are true how horrible for her and what a scumbag he is!

    Jimmy Page kept a 14 year old gf during this period & Mick Jagger had an underage gf – that legally became his ward. I think both musicians were in the late 20s/early 30s.
    I don’t think anything will happen with this case, personally I think this a cash grab. Also I think the woman is laying it on a little thick, everyone know someone who has been sexually assaulted. It’s about 1 out of 5 women, even I have been sexually assaulted. However not 1 person I know let it destroy their life.

      I agree with you. Although its terrible no matter how you look at it, and they guy in question deserves to pay the price, I know many women who have faced sexual assault and gone on to live happy fulfilling lives, and they certainly were able to have sexual relationships. I think revenge and a cash grab is at play here.

      Well congratulations on not letting rape destroy your life. Please be aware that for some people the impact of rape is horrendous and has far reaching ramifications. A happy fulfilling life may be on the outside for many of us, but our relationships and private moments are in turmoil. To speak so generally is to minimise this crime.

    Gee. The way the article emphasizes a solo star, suggests that perhaps he was once part of a group–but not int he 70’s. If we are talking here about a major superstar who was part of a group in the 60’s, and who was active in the ’70’s, the name Paul McCartney comes to mind. Certainly seems unlikely. And yet, so did Cosby.

    This story has been around a long time-and came out again in the Jimmy Saville pedo case. At that time-the clues pointed to Tom Jones or Rod Stewart. But now, articles in S. African papers/blogs are re-printing it-and TJ was in SA performing at the time. What will happen? At least, I hope whoever the bastard is comes out in the news. They need to be shamed-since it’s highly unlikely they’ll be tried for this. Apparently the “girl” has some proofs? Disgusting!

    I’m picturing Rod Stewart but, sadly, this could be almost anyone. I imagine this goes on a lot with rich/famous/powerful men, and most girls (and boys) never speak of it, much less get justice.

      He did not have any one accuse him of rape. A woman came out after he died saying she lost her virginity to him when she was 15 and she was still delighted about it.

    Tom Jones- didn’t take me long to google and find the photo taken in Johannesburg March 1976 of the girl in a blue jumpsuit and him in a short white robe. He’s recently put his house up for sale so he may be facing a huge payout!

Any combination of those things tells me he won’t have to go to court but the court of public opinion could be worse. Effing pe.dos can’t hide anymore. The truth is coming out all over the world.

    I have no idea who this is, but i’m afraid they wont do anything to him. The worst it could happen to him after all this time is the media reporting this story and him losing a few fans. But i dont think they will send him to jail or anything.

    I hope the woman that went through this is able to recover from that awful experience.

    Hmmm. For that time period, I can only think of David Bowie and Rod Stewart. Since Bowie is no longer with us, then Rod Stewart it is.

    Nothing will happen with this case. It was too long ago and there won’t be enough evidence to support her accusations. It is probably true though and that is the worst part.

    This could be anyone, really, but for some reason I’m thinking Billy Idol, but that’s probably not the culprit due to the year everything happened, so I really don’t know.

    As for what will happen with the case, probably nothing. It will make headlines when it breaks, but nothing will really happen with it, as usual.

    About 25 years ago, I had a coworker who was originally from Scotland. We were talking about singers, and when I mentioned Rod Stewart she got a real funny look on her face, and then proceeded to go on a tirade about how much she hated him. Hmmm….

    Nothing will happen, it’s 40 plus years ago. He is in his 70s, as would be anyone who was a superstar in the 70s. No one is going to remember, and it’s going to be tough convincing anyone that a 14 year old didn’t know what champagne was. I grew up during the 70s in a small town, with a very strict family, and I definitely knew what champagne was in the 9th grade, combined with…

    This is Tom Jones. I don’t know what will happen. Lots of sexual assaults by high profile people from decades ago are being / have been prosecuted in the UK, but this happened in South Africa, so it’s a different scenario. Tom Jones is 76 though, so it may be a moot point. Maybe there’ll be hundreds of victims come forward after he’s gone, just like Jimmy Saville.

      I was a teen in the 70’s and, trust me, no self-respecting 14 year old would be caught dead at a Tom Jones concert back then. He attracted a much older crowd.
