Contrary to popular rumor, it is not about her race.     I recently saw a documentary on Netflix about Edward and Wallis Simpson. I think that it has been made into more of a fairytale Romance than it actually was. There were letters written by Wallace that indicated she did not really want to get married and she and Edward were social pariahs and broke pretty much for the rest of their lives.

    Agree it is Pr Harry and Meghan M. I guess they’d be happier if Harry chose a Brit aristocrat who “knows the ropes” but that didn’t work out so well with Diana or Sarah Ferguson.

    And yes there is a lot of German blood in the RF. QEII’s grandmother was German, her GrGr Grampa (Victoria’s hubby)was German and her GrGrGrGma was German. Philip has no Greek blood. His father was Danish & Russian and his mother was a gr granddaughter of Q Victoria but mostly German.

I really don’t see this union as working out though because of her profession (the unstable ones seem to be drawn to it,) and it would seem that her top attributes are her looks.

    The royals also thought Kate Middleton wouldn’t “fit”, as she was a (millionaire) commoner, and thought Camilla wouldn’t fit, as she wasn’t a virgin. Imagine a world in which Charles and Camilla could have always been married to each other instead of a world that forced Princess Diana (RIP; love her) to marry Charles. Di could have her own “happily ever after,” and so could Charles and Camilla.

    Meh, it’s not like he’s heir to the throne, and even the bluest blood can prove to be a little less than what the House of Windsor reckoned for. Diana and Fergie immediately spring to mind.       Times have changed, but the subjects haven’t. You can count the representation of minorities in their government on two hands and the minorities in the aristocracy on one.       Due to the intermarriages of royalty in Europe, their ancestry includes quite a few Germans. Prior to renaming themselves The House of Windsor in 1917, they were The House of Saxe-Coburg. So it is very possible for an American citizen of mostly English heritage, to contain more English DNA than the royals themselves.

      There’s really no such thing as ‘English DNA’. Even the white people of the UK have DNA from all over Europe. Celtic, Saxon, Viking, Norman.

      It’s a bit complicated, but the Royals have intermarried with other European royals (Danish, Spanish, German, etc.)
      for umpteen generations and are not 100% English. There is a LOT of German in their ancestry. It’s entirely possible to be an American with 100% English ancestry on both sides.

      @Jonesing- The Queen’s husband , aka Prince Philip, is not ethnically Greek – he is ethnically German, Danish and Russian. His great grandfather, originslly a Danish prince, became the king of Greece through his election by the Greek Assembly and married a Russian Grand Dutchess.

      I doubt her colour is a problem. But the fact she has been vocally political is a much bigger problem. Royals are supposed to be a-political.

      I think you’ll find the existence of her naked photo shoots more the factor. That is classless. The British Crown has not been without scandal but I don’t think any of them have been consensually photographed exposing their private parts. It’s disgusting, degrading, and beneath them. One of the princes of Denmark married an Asian woman. One of the princes of Lichtenstein married an African-American woman. Race doesn’t matter. Class does..and you can be classy without a title or money…

      @sallylalala no it was the British. The first slaves brought to America were to the settlement of Jamestown, a British colony.

      He’s now 5th in line for the throne (read: out of contention), and the Royal Family has had so much public scandal at this point I can’t imagine this would even register.
      Plus, Harry has become the best ambassador for the royals, and is rather obviously the Queen’s favorite as well. If he wants this, it’ll happen. Evidence is the “official announcement” about his displeasure with the way Meghan’s been treated by the British press, who like to keep mentioning her mom’s dreadlocks.
