Mom Tried To Sabotage Daughter

The Daughter penned a memoir about her famous family a few years ago. Much of the memoir was about her doppelganger mother. It was… critical. Not “No wire hangers!” kind of critical, but still critical enough that the two stopped speaking.

Part of the criticism was that her mother tried to sabotage her career. While the daughter never achieved the fame of her mother, she was definitely a working actress with a couple of dozen credits. Interestingly, after the memoir… nothing. She never booked another job.

Coincidence? Or did her mom finally succeed?

It is one thing to be an ambitious my career first Mom but it is another to stick your daughter in a remote part of the world and let her grow up a recluse. I haven’t read the book but I did see a TV article about it and I was appalled at Shirley’s actions and attitudes. * that Debra Winger is maybe, she saw something loathsome and phony about her New Age Terms of Endearment Co-Star.

    Shirley MacLaine and Sachi Parker were the first folks I thought of… and it seems that most everyone is on the same page here. The book is wonderfully written, and I believe every word. Sachi’s memory of trying out for the part of Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird is absolutely heartbreaking.

    Does anyone out there even remotely believe that Shirley MacLaine or her equally narcissistic brother Warren Beatty would ever be anything but horrible parents? I love them both onscreen, but I shudder at the thought of being raised by either one of them. Their mother must have been a REAL piece of work. Can you say “dysfunctional”?

    I think the daughter is in her 50’s She was already “Hollywood” over the hill. Plus, she had steady work in 70’s 80’s but I hadn’t seen her in anything in years. So, I don’t think it was because of Shirley black listing her. Warren would have more power to do that anyway.

    It’s sad, but Shirley is notoriously difficult to work with so it’s not entirely surprising she wouldn’t be entirely supportive of a child who grew up in an entirely different country (Japan).

    I know this. It’s Sachi Parker, whose mother is Shirley MacLaine and uncle is Warren Beatty. I’m in the process of reading her book now. It’s called “Lucky Me.” I’m about halfway through, and her Mom is a doozy, like so many other Hollywood mothers. Her mother is a classic narcissist, just like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. These are not maternal mothers.

      Seriously, not many. It is well-known among the psych community that that career path (fame) draws in narcissists more than any other personality type or trait. You have to desire a lot of attention and want to be front and center to be a “star”. Poeple who demand that level of attention usually have at least narcissistic traits if not full-blown narcissism. It’s the ones who are not narcissists that surprise us…Michelle Pfiefer, Jody Foster, Natalie Portman, etc.

    sachi parker-shirley maclaine’s daughter. sachi wrote a book in 2013 in which she said the actress chose her career over her daughter. uncle is warren beatty, maclaine definitely neglected her daughter with her career, globetrotting, past lives and countless lovers taking precedence over rearing her child.

      For any of you who have not read Sachi’s book, Irecommend it.

      It portrays Shirley in a bad light (Shirley neglected her daughter and farmed her out to her “father” who appears to have molested her).

      Shirley comes across as a classic narcissist – self-centered, self-absorbed, greedy, stingy, jealous, insecure, non-nuturing, hateful, bizarre, spiteful and neglectful.

      I am inclined to believe the claims given Shirley’s nutty beliefs, starting with “Out on a Limb” and going…
