[Blind Gossip] A singer/songwriter named Lamia Vano took to Instagram to defend Kesha in Kesha’s battle with a producer whom she said had abused her.
Lamia Vano – who was signed as a music artist when she was just 13 years old – wound up making a confession of her own about another “renowned record producer.”
I took my time to respond to the [Kesha] situation, due to the fact that it certainly hits close to home for me. I don’t believe that the general public realizes how difficult and rigorous it is for a female artist in the music industry. I can personally relate to Kesha’s struggle’s so much. As a teenager, when a renown record producer offers you a shot at your dreams, wouldn’t you take it? Remember, you’re still just a kid and naive to the world, so you naturally believe that people will have your best interest at heart. But what happens when the mentor you looked up starts to inflict emotional and mental controlling ways upon you, among other things? How do you think it feels to be told point blank to your face that you’re worthless and everything you have could be taken away in an instance? They’ll use their power and control to make you carry out their wishes, or face the fear of their threats. No one can understand the amount of emotional and physical damage a person has to go through, just in order to break away from this type of chain. I admire you so deeply and you’re so much stronger than I was. Love you @iiswhoiis
Lamia just deleted her Instagram response, but we have included a screen cap of it below.
Which record producer mentored her… then threatened her?

[Optional] If a famous music producer wanted to sign your child to their record label, would you say yes?

Oh! I thought it was Celine talking about Rene!

Aww. Poor girl, broke my reading that. I know the entertainment industry is full of predators, and that a LOT of awful stuff happens behind the scenes (especially to those who are the most vulnerable, such as kids, women, and people from a dysfunctional home); but it’s still extremely disturbing to hear about. I wish they would all step forward about all of this, whether they’re male or female, but I guess they’re too afraid of the consequences to do so. Just look at Cosby, Savile, etc.

Jermaine Dupris? If my daughter wanted to pursue a music career I would encourage her but I would not let her sell her soul for it. Nor would she ever be without me, her father or her brother. And most importantly I would encourage her to speak up if she ever felt threatened and intimidated by anyone. I would be telling her that She is the talent and they need her more than she needs them. Producers are dime a dozen, real talent is rare! Parents are responsible for keeping their children safe.

Dupris. He’s disgusting…..
And no I wouldn’t. You sell your soul for fame and riches. Look at all the messed up child stars in music and acting. People used to get down on Brooke Shields mom for being controlling and overbearing when Brooke was young. I commend her. She knew what the deal was and chose to protect her daughter.
dynamodavid says
Jermaine Dupri, the guy who “discovered” her.
And, Hell, No! (Since I am familiar with Hollywood business practices, I would not sign a minor to any deal that wasn’t voidable.)
Lola99 says
There’s no such thing as a contract that isn’t voidable. If someone was doing something unseemly to my child or threatening her that contract would be ignored. Let them take me to court.

Jermaine Dupri is the producer and founder of So So Records.
Regarding the above question, I would say no. A minor doesn’t understand the legal and business side of the music industry. The music business looks fun and glamorous( The Grammys and MTV Video Music Awards, etc) but it really is a shady business where most artists are in debt to their record labels.

I don’t know who the producer is, but, I will say that of course I would allow my child to be signed by a famous music producer, and, OF COURSE, I would never leave my child’s side while he/she was doing anything remotely “work” related because it is my job as a parent to make sure my child is safe.

Jermaine Dupri signed her up when she was a teenager. Don’t know if this who she’s talking about.
