[Pop Bitch] School friends of which British world-class sports star remember him as being one of a gang of bullies who beat up a classmate so badly he was hospitalized? The rest of them got expelled for the attack, except for our guy – whose dad intervened and pleaded with the headmaster, insisting that expulsion would damage his future career.

I think I’m right. The jacket says “2007” and I’m pretty sure that’s when the story broke.
renaxo says
It’s Lewis Hamilton.
It made the British papers in the mid 2000s, but apparently no one (including the victim) want to talk about it. The story is prob still online.
The official statement was that he was “wrongly identified”, but everyone else gave a “no comment”. He was a huge *.
veganman says
This can’t be hunky Ben Cohen……….can it? Mr. Anti-Bully himself?
Kingofboggle says
I’m going to guess Andy Murray. Beckham was already a pro by age 16. And soccer isn’t really a sport where a bad rep world hurt “your future career”. Tennis on the other hand is a more “civilized” sport.
The jacket says “007”. Most famous Bond? Connery = Scottish
Murray = Scottish.
And the fact they said “British” not English tips the scale

British sports star : David Beckham?
sublimeLime says
I’m going to say Wayne Rooney, just because he seems like a total punk.
Scarlo says
I don’t know the answer to this blind (although I’m fairly certain it ISN’T Beckham) but SIGH. I’m sick of seeing his name listed dozens of times on every single blind about a British male sports star from people who think he is the ONLY sports personality to ever come out of the UK, even when the story is quite clearly not about him.
Carocaro22 says
As a Brit I would think this happened at a private school so would probably rule out someone like beckham murray or Hamilton who I think all went to state schools. It would be tough to persuade a state school to drop an expulsion but you do hear about these things at private schools which are independent from the gvt, so you’re probably looking for a posh sports star…
Tootles says
totally agree with carocaro, this is about a privately educated sports star. Frank Lampard perhaps?
mrsbeckham says
Please everyone, stop assuming every time a British Sportsman is mention it is Becks. I worked with him many years ago, he is a genuinely nice guy and has always been 100% committed to his career. And his Dad would never have got him off the hook like this. He was well brought up.
prinny says
I know! I am not even British, but it bothers me that people think that Beckham is the only athlete Britain has ever produced!
prissy says
The 007 on the bully’s jacket is a clue
guessingnotknowing says
I’m going for David Beckham – based on the photo alone. It says 2007 on the jacket, and he moved to America in 2007.

David Beckham.
Fans would be disappointed but I would hope they would realise that kids do stupid things and not go at him. Hopefully he feels terrible about it and has learned life lessons and respect for others from this incident.
A guy I know bullied my sister terribly as a teen but is a nice guy and good father now. People change.

My first thought was Wayne Rooney

David Beckham?
mrsbeckham says
Judging by the pic and his “scallywag” reputation, I’m going with Rory McIlroy. I don’t think it’s a footballer as the only world class footballer we have in Britain is Gareth Bale and I can’t see it being him.
prinny says
Oh no really??? I hope not him!

Owen Farrell … but I’m just guessing.

I don’t know who this British athlete is, but knowing something like this about them even though it’s from when they were a child, would definitely shape my view of them as an adult. Only certain personality types bully like that and they don’t change. They may get better about self-control so they don’t sabotage their own life or career but that’s just getting smarter about what is socially acceptable. It’s not the same thing as changing character.

But yup, there’s only Beckham. 😐

I didnt intend for that to sound like “they have nobody else” sorry if it came across that way.
I just meant that most articles about British athletes in the States *ARE* about Beckham. He is tabloid fodder royalty. Sorry if any were offended.

David Beckham.
Optional: Probably not. People/fan adore their stars no matter what!
letithurt says
Incredibly unlikely – football/soccer players in the UK don’t really spend much time in school past the age of about 11, and chances of authorities other than teachers being involved under 11 are close to zero. More likely to be Hamilton/Murray
Kitsune6 says
Lewis Hamilton – It wasn’t just his Dad who intervened, some powerful people helped him out legally
