Up until about three or four years ago, there was no hint of any girlfriend in his past. To score the big roles – and the big awards – it was thought that he would have to be more “mainstream.” So they linked him to half a dozen pretty female celebrities over the course of a year or two to give him a romantic history and to make him look desirable. Then they married him off to the friend-turned-wife.
Fantastically mainstream.
