[New York Post] Which New York publicist briefly dated Ryan Lochte, but won’t be bragging about it any longer?
Similar: Kicking Michael Phelps
Publicist:
[Optional] If you were a sponsor, would you keep or drop Ryan Lochte? what advice would you give him to rehab his image?
LooLoo says
Lol, cowardly? These are businesses. Why hire someone with a bad reputation to represent your brand? It makes no financial sense.
becks26 says
No idea about the publicist but I think this has been handled so appallingly by the PR team (if there even was one?!)
I think the truth is somewhere in the middle between Lochte’s account and the police. Yes he initially over exaggerated, but there doesn’t seem to be any real evidence that a bathroom was damaged, just a sign. The swimmers made Rio look bad and when the world is watching the cops/politicians couldn’t have that so I think they themselves lied / exaggerated too.
becks26 says
The problem he has is words matter in this case because of all the sensitivities and politics around it, and we all know that’s not his speciality.
I think he should go away for a bit, live in the real world, teach kids and then focus on winning events again – it worked for Phelps and he’s been done for smoking weed and driving while wasted (which is far worse seeing as he could have killed someone).
AmethystJade says
Publicist: No clue. I wouldn’t be surprised if the sponsors drop Ryan Locthe, though they should investigate that the swimmers story is true. If the politicians, cops, IOC, everyone involved tried to hide that the Australian teams luggage/equipment disappeared once or before arriving to Rio, the conditions of the rooms in the Olympic village, hid the homeless people all over Rio, the curruption of the politicians/games bought, the Russians bought themselves in to participate, I’m not…

to quote comedian ron white “ugly can be fixed ,but, stupid is forever”
Annaliese says
I don’t know who the publicist is, but I think his strategy should be to show contrition and responsibility for his actions. Since this situation seems to have been fueled by alcohol, I think he should get treatment- he should go to Rehab and then use his notoriety as a platform to warn of the evils of over-indulgence. He probably wouldn’t truly be remorseful, but this may get him some of those highly-desired dollars back in his pocket.
More_Cowbell says
Don’t know the publicist. All sponsors should drop him. He gets paid to swim and represent the US. Can’t do that, don’t get paid. He can improve his image by going to rehab and laying low for a while.
His story was suspicious from the start, when he said that only he refused to get on the ground. This kind of self-aggrandizement and doubling down on the lie to get more attention is, sadly, not uncommon these days.
bengalcat says
His handler should never let him get in front of matt Lauer, soo bad
He should of done a press conference, mea culpa and then shut up about it
Btw, where’s the missing 3 minutes of video from gas station??
Rio is a dangerous place

Publicist: No idea, but I would be guessing it was the person who sold his nudes
[Optional] If you were a sponsor, would you keep or drop Ryan Lochte? what advice would you give him to rehab his image?
I would drop Lochte (it happened already anyways). Go and take a break from all sorts of negativities, including his attitude. Stop practicing for awhile, he needs to see the real world and realize that everything comes with consequences. Don’t forget to not just apologize but also, coming…
tigerlily says
Can’t blame them for dropping him, they did the right thing for their brands. And I don’t believe Ryan is capable of rehabbing his image as he doesn’t seem to comprehend that he did wrong. All the evasiveness (I saw part of the Matt Lauer interview) and using every word but LIE leads me to believe that he hasn’t taken responsibility for what he’s done. And left the others hung out to dry. His parents must be sooo proud.
Lilibet says
I’d drop him. The only way Ryan can truly rehab his image is if he has a brain transplant.

1. Start/invest in some business
2. Go away quietly

No idea, but he was never worth bragging over anyway. Has anyone ever heard or read an interview with him or even seen his short-lived reality show? God bless him, he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
CevansLeftpec2 says
He’s not very bright so as a publicist it’d be very hard to clean up his messes when he’s so prone to going off script and creating huge national scandals on a whim. Blind doesn’t specify the gender of the publicist, but I’m assuming since they were openly bragging, it’s a woman…that’s all I have, lol.
thelasthigh says
I would drop him if I were a sponsor. the only thing that could revamp his image is being honest & taking full responsibility, which he definitely won’t ever do.
OhSoLittleMouse says
How could ANYONE spread their legs for this *?
whydoireadthis says
All sponsors should drop him — IMMEDIATELY!
First, he needs to grow up.
Second, quit showboating with his expensive possessions
Third, quit acting like a child or spoiled frat-boy.
Fourth, offer a sincere apology. Nothing he has said so far rings true to me.
Fifth, pay for the damage he caused. Any money already paid should be discounted.
Ryan needs to quit being himself and that will be difficult Community Service & Large Donations is a good start.
Punishment would…
woowoo says
Don’t know the name of the publicist.
If I were a sponsor I’d drop him.
There are no words of advice to give him that he would understand or even consider. He is a narcissist. Narcissists are unable to comprehend or accept that they’ve done anything wrong. That’s why when he committed vandalism and was immediately made to pay for the damages, he retaliated by making up a story where he was a victim.
Tennisnsun says
I would drop him with a resounding thud and tell him to quit blaming alcohol for his disgusting actions. “It’s not my fault, the alcohol made me do it” is a very common excuse used by people who are in denial about being an alcoholic. That still doesn’t explain the plethora of other actions he took and said when he was supposedly sober but he needs to come to terns with his alcohol abuse and join kind of therapy program.
keenobserver says
He should be dropped by everyone, including his mom, and should be forced to give up his medals from this olympics because HE DOES NOT represent the spirit of the Americans in the olympics.
My mother was a gymnast in the 1956 olympics in Australia. Ryan is shameful. A disgrace and a poor example to young athletes.
TeacherKat says
No idea. But I’m not sure I would want to sponsor him in the first place. I mean, he probably needs his mom to explain his contracts to him in super simple terms before he signs them. He really isn’t the brightest bulb…
I Am PunkA says
I’d keep Lochte. Seems more and more of his story is now coming out as true, and Brazil tried to smear him. Yeah, he embellished, but Rio cops and politicians also lied to cover up what happened. USA Today just did some investigating and are saying most of Lochte’s story is true.
flower says
I agree.

Publicist: woman or man? Got nuthin’ else.
If the situation were ideal, I’d love to say more than “What the what were you thinking?” & “Get a life, son”.
ElleLondon says
I have no clue about the publicist but if I were a sponsor I’d keep him if only to chain him to the bed with a gag in his mouth. Yep I’d hit it like a screen door in a hurricane day and night.
He’s still an absolute knob jockey however.
vinny2015 says
LOL I love this comment. It made me choke on my coffee. HA HA HA. He’s a cutie
ElleLondon says
Why thank you. I’ll share

Caz1310 says
I’d absolutely dump him. Proven to be a liar – very damaging for any reputable Brand. His image is irreparable..he’s done. No image rehab.
CallmeCrazy says
I have no idea who the publicist is but I know that if I was a sponsor, I’d do everything I could to distance myself from this spoiled, entitled excuse of a man.
Golfbabe says
Ryan has been a sore loser and super jealous of Michael Phelps back from the old days. A fake image change won’t fool anyone. Anyway, isn’t he getting too old for anyone to care? Give the sponsorships to the amazing girls did so well.
wfreshie says
don’t know the publicist…drop., he was representing our country and pulled this stunt and it’s aftermath …..grow the * up and go to rehab….such an idiot manchild
Epitome says
Leave him alone. He has admitted publicly. He has humiliated himself. He apologized. He is suffering a major financial consequence.
I suppose logically, if we need to continue to pile on him – we should keep that in mind for all errors in judgment, and those pesky political lies (s)he tells.
He should move to LA and be quiet for a year. Swim and do whats necessary, be quiet. Accept his punishment from the ever so political IOC or USOC or whomever, and in 3 years pop up again.
CoCoJoe says
Are you kidding? The point is that consumers will no longer be swayed to buy products endorsed by an obvious idiot. It’s not about forgiveness and him paying his dues; he’s just not marketable any more.
LilGator says
All those consumers must never have seen his reality show. He was like Gretchen Weiner trying to make “fetch” happen… JEAH!
sayswho says
How did LA hurt you? Send him elsewhere.
momonthego says
^LOL — best comment of the day.
jrgius says
He “admitted” that he over-exaggerated (not a word btw!) he’s an idiot and deserves everything he’s getting. He was at the finish line and jacked it up, Polo and Speedo dropped him all because he concocted a BIG lie that was TOTALLY unnecessary. WHY do you feel sorry for him?????
Verbal Kint says
Exaggerate: embellish
Over exaggerate: lie
Nataliexyz says
He always came across to me as a *. This ridiculous story he made up just shows how big of a * he really is.
Parade says
We need to set standards and we have to start somewhere, don’t we?
truffle says
Ehhh…. Imma gonna judge him so hard that his grandkids will be embarased about it. Dude is a jerk and everything he is getting for the * he pulled is well deserved. There are things that people should be left alone for, but being a class A * and a moron is not one.
Fortune Cookie says
He represented the US at the Olympics and his lies reflect poorly on Team USA. If he’s strong enough to be an Olympic athlete, then he’s strong enough to accept the consequences of his actions. He can save his juvenile antic for Spring Break here in the US.
SammynSophie says
Very well said.
kspeedian says
Forget the other stuff… What makes me curious about your comment is: You sound like you’re implying he should lay low and then come back for the next olympics. If so, do you know he’s 32, and therefore he’d be 36 next Summer games? Genuinely asking, not being a wise * lol, bc I don’t know enough about swimming to know if it’s still typical to compete when pushing 40. Although, I do feel like I remember hearing one of the commentators say during the games that Phelps and Lochte were…

I have no idea who the publicist is but Ryan Lochte is an idiot. I was shocked to find out that he’s actually older than me, based on how he talks and acts. Anyway, he is good for one thing. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I read his dumbest quotes. They always make me feel much better lol
sublimeLime says
lol I look up his quotes and read them out loud to others. They’re always good for a laugh.
