Beautifully Understated

[Blind Gossip] Whenever award nominations are announced, there are always bound to be a few surprises… and a few disappointments.

This esteemed and award-winning actor starred in an intense film this year.

When he was at the Critics Choice Awards, [a member of the Academy] came up to him and told him how much she enjoyed [a movie he starred in this year]. She said that he gave a “Beautifully understated and dignified performance.”

He was very polite and thanked her, but after she walked away he said, “Beautifully understated? Well, we all know what that means. Kiss that Oscar goodbye!”

He was overlooked for a Golden Globe Award nomination. However, we wouldn’t count him out for an Oscar nomination quite yet!

    Paul Dano was in Swiss Army Man, as a guy trapped on an island, just FYI. Don’t necessarily think it’s him (although he was Oscar worthy), but since everyone thinks the photo is a clue for Tom Hanks in Cast Away. Thought I’d mention it. ?
    Dunno why Hanks cares so much. He’s got two Oscars anyway. But I can see him being sarcastic like this.

    I really liked Ben Affleck in The Accountant. The movie has faded away in every respect.

    I though GG gave all the predicted frontrunners nominations this year? The only I could think of is Chris Pratt from Passengers? But I could be wrong.

    I just saw Nocturnal Animals and I thought Jake Gyllenhall was pretty amazing in his role.

    Far better than house of cards
    The acting of kyle chandler, (Friday night lights ) sissy spacek (Carrie) Sam (married to Jessica Lange ) Linda cardellini ( freaks and geeks) and the hunk from without a trace and Chloe sevigny and the girl from real world London is the best and key largo setting is beautful

    Brad Pitt or Tom Hanks as Sully? I would guess the second choice over the first I could see where understated would fit Sully’s character.

    Tom Hanks In Sully, The photo is a nod to his movie Cast Away.

    I thought Anthony Hopkins was fantastic in Westworld and also deserved a nomination.

      I was going with Casey Affleck but I actually like your guesses.

      Gyllenhaal was reportedly disappointed by the lack of recognition for NIGHTCRAWLER a few years ago (rightfully so IMO!).

      Renner seems to complain about everything so I can see it being him too. So many divas in Hollywood!

      This is hilarious to me because I share that last name and throughout my childhood and early adulthood people consistently pronounced my name the way your auto-correct spelled it. I have no idea why!! I use to want to ask “where are you getting the “t” from?” That was, of course, BB…before Ben. And for that, I will always be grateful to him. 🙂

      The photo is “by the sea” and the comment sounds totally like something he’d say.

      Poor Casey. He’s a phenomenal actor, but not a part of the club.

      Great actor yes. Very talented. Cute and charming in an understated way. And nominated for a globe this year though, so this can’t be about him. But he creeps me out. Scares me actually. Serial killer vibe. I don’t feel he is a very good person deep down.
