Perhaps this is just a case of great minds thinking alike, but one actor AND one actress are already planning to take advantage of the departure of one of their cast mates!

In the wake of the departure of actor Thomas Gibson, actress Paget Brewster is returning to Criminal Minds… and will be bumped up to a regular role!

Brewster has been on and off the show for a few years. Now she’s got a regular gig, and it’s definitely a promotion. Good for you, Paget!

Good thing they brought her back, too, because there are 13 serial killers on the loose! Go get ’em, Emily Prentiss!

In the wake of Thomas Gibson being fired from Criminal Minds, the CBS drama has promoted Paget Brewster to series regular, EW has learned.

Brewster joined the show as SSA Emily Prentiss in season 2 and was a regular castmember through season 7. She returned for one episode in season 11 following the departure of Shemar Moore. The actress was already slated to guest star in multiple episodes this season before being promoted.

“We’re all so excited to have Paget with us full time,” executive producer Erica Messer says. “The BAU family has definitely missed her, on screen and off. Having her back on set has been great, it’s like she never left.”

The news comes on the heels of Gibson, who played Aaron Hotchner since the show’s launch in 2005, being dismissed after an on-set altercation with a writer on the show.

Criminal Minds returns Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Brewster’s first episode will air Wednesday, Oct. 12.

    Criminal Minds but for those guessing Joe Mantegna as the actor thinking that he’ll get a bigger salary and more screentime, Joe is already number 1 on the call sheet, Thomas Gibson was number 2, Shemar Moore number 4 and Matthew Gray Gubler number 5.

    Among the women, Paget Brewster used to be number 3, A. J. Cook number 6 and Kirsten number 7.

    must be criminal minds now that they fired the lead (not gonna lie…that shocked me…never thought they would have the guts to do it).
    I would guess the actor is either Mantegna or Gubler (although from what I’ve heard he loves the directing aspect, so maybe that would be what he wants)
    Actress… really none of them on there scream LEADER , unless it’s Paget Brewster who’s doing an arc and wants to come back FT

    This is about Criminal Minds.
    The actor maybe Joe Mantegna, Matthew’s character is already pretty important and I don’t see him replacing Thomas’ character.
    And the actress A. J. Cook. I don’t think that Penelope (Kirsten Vangsness) could be the leader of the team, JJ has more possibilites.

    Anyway, without Thomas, I wont watch CM anymore… They ruined my favourite tv show

    Actor- Toss between Joe Mantegna or Matthew Gray Grubler but I am guessing Joe as he has a smaller role and would make the most sense to take Hotchner’s place

    Actress- A.J. Cook- There was a recent episode of CM where Hotch and JJ were talking to a prisoner and the prisoner was making fun of JJ for being an woman and letting Hotch be in control.

    This particular blind makes me sad. Loved the original cast, felt they had such great chemistry amongst them. Literally still binge watch old episodes when I can because of the cast themselves.
    Obviously Criminal Minds with departing (fired) cast mate Thomas Gibson.
    I don’t even want to try to guess who the cast mates are, I will continue to be blissfully ignorant and believe that they are all friends looking out for one another?.

    A colleagues’ departure is an opportunity for a promotion from within, why not. It’s not like you were wishing the person gone. But I don’t see Shemar or AJ Cook having the same gravitas as Gibson to carry the show. They will have to be careful who to replace him with.

    This is about the hot-mess that has become “The Blacklist.” The show was about Red/Liz and her partner at the FBI, Ressler. Then her abusive, psycho ex, Tom, was somehow pushed as a redeemable, likeable character for a crappy spinoff!

    The show pushed this annoying character ad nauseum at the expense of it’s stars, Megan Boone and Diego Klattenhoff who were the number two and number three billed lead actors. They were put on the back burner to push a spinoff about a “loveable”…

    I would totally use someone’s departure to get something for myself! Sometimes that’s the only way you can move up. This cast has always painted itself as super close but the way the network treats its female cast members has been horrible in the past. I hope the women can benefit this time around.
