SOLVED!
[Blind Gossip] A well-known Actor really wanted the lead role in an film that was being cast by an Oscar-nominated/winning Director. Our Actor even went straight to The Director to ask for the part. After that meeting, he privately bragged – and publicly hinted – that he had successfully landed the much-coveted role.
Fast-forward a couple of weeks, and the Director announced the lead would be played by… a different actor! Our Actor was genuinely shocked. He thought he had that role on lock! What happened?
Well, Our Actor made the critical mistake of bad-mouthing his ex. Instead of publicly returning fire, she made a simple phone call to The Director. You see, she acts, too. In fact, she has previously worked with The Director. She told The Director that she really enjoyed working with him – and would like to work with him again – but would feel uncomfortable doing so if he started working with the ex who was now trying to make her look bad.
Our Actress didn’t need to beg or threaten or give ultimatums. The Director understood and made a smart decision. He sided with the bigger star. He told Our Actress that he had a project in mind for her and was looking forward to working with her again. Then he gave the much-coveted role that Our Actor wanted to someone else.

SOLVED!
Our Actor: Nick Cannon
Our Actress: Mariah Carey
Film: Richard Pryor biopic
The Director: Lee Daniels
Mariah Carey has worked with director Lee Daniels in several films, including Precious and The Butler. Yes, Mariah is an actress.
Daniels is also responsible for the hit TV show Empire. Daniels and Carey have become good friends over the years.
In the midst of their messy divorce, Mariah’s ex-husband, Nick Cannon, decided that he really, REALLY wanted the starring role in the Richard Pryor biopic.
This is where it gets interesting. There was a good chance that the film would be directed by Lee Daniels, and the film was being cast by Leah Daniels (the sister of Lee Daniels AND the casting director of Empire).
Nick Cannon walked around telling everyone that he had the role locked down.
Did Nick Cannon get it?
Despite openly campaigning for the role of Richard Pryor in the upcoming biopic, Nick Cannon did not get the role.
Nick was devastated when he found out that he didn’t get the part.
The role went to actor Mike Epps.
Would Nick have made a good Richard Pryor? Probably. But we’ll never know.
Has Lee Daniels asked Nick Cannon to work with him on anything else since? No.
Has Lee Daniels asked Mariah Carey to work with him on anything else since? Yes.
Today it was just announced that Mariah Carey has signed on for a role on Lee Daniels’ TV hit Empire.
Mariah Carey to guest as superstar singer on Fox’s ‘Empire’
After two seasons of teasing viewers about whether it would happen, Mariah Carey has set a date to guest star on Fox’s Empire.
Carey will appear on the Oct. 5 episode, the network confirmed Monday at a TV critics bi-annual press tour.
She will play a superstar singer named Kitty, who collaborates with Jussie Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon, on a new song. Lyon has a creative block until Kitty helps him deal with some personal issues to make the song work.
“Mariah loves the show” and has long made a point of sharing her passion for it when they have met at events, said Dana Walden, chairman and CEO of the Fox Television Group.Carey filmed the episodes last week, Walden said.
Just in case you were confused about who is the biggest cheese in this story, Fox calls her “Global Icon Mariah Carey” in its announcement, and noted that she is the “best-selling female recording artist of all time.”
FYI, the Richard Pryor film is currently in pre-production and is tentatively titled Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
Nick Cannon was probably asking himself that very same question after he was rejected by Daniels and Daniels.
Don’t mess with Mariah!
Congratulations to Christian for being first with the correct response!
