[Blind Gossip] Lots of magazines and entertainment shows covered the announcement a while back about this TV actress signing with a major music label for her debut album. How exciting for her and the fans of her show!
The first single dropped months ago, but if you are waiting for the album to be released, you’ll be waiting a long time, because the label has kicked the singer to the curb!
The single was a dud, the record company thinks she’s a non-starter, and they don’t like her changing image. So, they will not be putting up the money to release and promote the album.
The company wanted her to be the one to make the announcement that their music partnership was over… but she has been giving them a song and dance for months about why she can’t make the announcement now.
So, it’s a standoff. No album, no announcement, and she gets to pretend that she is still a recording artist signed to a major label. Doesn’t she know anyone else in the music industry?
Actress/Singer:
SOLVED!
It’s Naya Rivera! Source: BlindGossip.com
Yes, we were the first to tell you exactly a month ago that Naya Rivera had been dropped by Columbia Records and that her album would not be released by them. However, she still appeared on the Columbia Records website as one of its signed artists.
Well, right after we published the blind item on April 2… Columbia Records dropped her off its website!
Now comes the confirmation from Billboard:
Naya Rivera Dropped From Columbia Records
While conflicting reports surface about her “Glee” future, Rivera’s relationship with her record label has ended.
Naya Rivera is no longer on the Columbia Records roster, multiple sources have confirmed to Billboard. The “Glee” star signed with the label in 2011, and did not release a full-length with Columbia.
The 27-year-old, who plays Santana Lopez on the hit Fox series, was one of the first “Glee” actors to land a solo record deal, and announced plans to begin work on an album in summer 2011. Last September, “Sorry,” Rivera’s debut single featuring then-boyfriend Big Sean, was released; the song did not chart on the Hot 100 and has sold 34,000 downloads to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
After getting engaged in last October, Rivera and Big Sean abruptly called off the wedding last month. “Sean wishes Naya nothing but the best and it is still his hope that they can continue to work through their issues privately,” read a statement from Big Sean’s camp about the broken engagement.
Meanwhile, rumors persist that Rivera has been fired from “Glee,” which is winding down its fifth season. Although a rep for the singer/actress called reports of her firing “absolutely untrue” to The Hollywood Reporter, other reports have claimed that a feud with co-star Lea Michele has led to Rivera’s permanent dismissal.
Since “Glee” began airing in mid-2009, its cast of rising young talent has struggled to get their respective solo projects off the ground. Lea Michele’s debut album “Louder” was at long last released in March, and has sold 87,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Other “Glee” cast members, including Darren Criss and Amber Riley, are still prepping their proper debuts.
In an interesting side story, Naya’s publicists are continuing to deny that she was fired from Glee and that she was dropped by Columbia Records. Deny, deny, deny. They are threatening to take legal action against anyone who says that she was fired or let go or dropped or whatever:
“The newest story claiming that Naya Rivera was dropped from her recording contract with Columbia Records is absolutely false. If the ‘news’ outlets who put out this story had bothered to contact anyone from her team they would have learned this was false. To be clear, any rumors or statements made as fact, that Naya Rivera was fired or let go from Glee or dropped from her recording contract, are categorically false. Someone obviously has an agenda to damage Naya’s good name and the media are failing at their duty to responsibly vet their sources and verify what is true and what is not. Naya’s attorneys are prepared to take any and all legal action to enforce and protect her rights.”
Well, Naya’s team had better have a big budget for legal fees and postage, because:
“Naya Rivera is no longer on the Columbia Records roster, multiple sources have confirmed to Billboard.”
“A source confirms to E! News that the actress and aspiring singer is no longer signed with Columbia Records.”
“Naya Rivera has been fired from the FOX series Glee days after an initial report of an on-set feud involving the actresses surfaced, sources close to production told The Daily News.”
“Naya Rivera is moving on from Glee. After months of mounting tension—some of it with costar Lea Michele—the actress, 27, has been fired from the FOX musical series, multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly.”
