Top Actor Is Using Again

coc 10SOLVED!

[Blind Gossip] This very talented, award-winning actor is featured in one of the biggest films of the season.

He has struggled with substance abuse in the past but thought he had mastered his addiction for good. Well, apparently not. He has gone back to using dr*gs again. Hard drugs.

He was filming a movie in the southern U.S. a couple of weeks ago and had a night off.

It started out innocently enough, with him catching a show at a local comedy club. A couple of drinks and a few laughs later, and he was back to using. And we’re not just talking about a little taste. We’re talking about a huge binge with some locals that he just met that night.

We know you don’t want to believe it, but it’s true… Man, what in heaven’s name is he thinking?

philip seymour hoffmanSOLVED!

It’s Philip Seymour Hoffman. Source:

This is the saddest kind of solved item. As you probably know by now, esteemed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died yesterday, February 2, 2014, of a drug overdose at the young age of 46. From CNN:

Philip Seymour Hoffman

dead of apparent drug overdose

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday of an apparent drug overdose, law enforcement sources said.

Police said Hoffman, 46, was found on the bathroom floor and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found two bags of what is believed to be her*in inside the fourth-floor apartment, law enforcement officials said.

“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving,” Hoffman’s family said in a statement. “Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”

Hoffman was last seen alive at 8 p.m. Saturday, a law enforcement official said. He was expected to get his children on Sunday, but didn’t show up, the official said. Playwright David Katz and another person went to the apartment and found him dead, the official said.

A needle was in the actor’s left arm, and eight empty glassine-type bags that usually contain her*in were found in the apartment, law enforcement sources told CNN.

The bags were stamped with “Ace of Hearts” and “Ace of Spades” — street names for the her*in, the sources said.

The incident in this blind item occurred just four months ago, in early November 2013, at a comedy club in Atlanta. Hoffman was there filming Mockingjay, the next chapter in The Hunger Games series.

Although his friends claim he was sober prior to his death, we knew that Hoffman was having problems with alcohol, c*caine, and her*in in the past several months.

Many of you ask us why we focus so much on drug users, and why we constantly report on their activities. Well, PSH is why. Drugs kill. Hoffman was sober for years, and then he started using again. So, for all you celebs (and non-celebs) out there who think that this could never happen to you: this is a sad reminder that you are only one binge away from death. Please get help.

Donkeykong was first with the correct answer to this blind item. We gave you lots of clues, and many of you did a good job with them:

“talented” = PSH starred in The Talented Mr. Ripley

“award-winning actor” = PSH won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Capote

“one of the biggest films of the season”,  “catching a show” = PSH starred in Catching Fire

“mastered his addiction” = PSH starred in the film The Master

“Man” = PSH just starred in A Most Wanted Man (new film, not yet released)

“what in heaven’s name” = PSH played a priest in Doubt, and PSH’s character in The Hunger Games series is named Plutarch Heavensbee

Initial reports only talked about heroin as the cause of death. We told you that Philip Seymour Hoffman was having problems alcohol, cocaine, and heroin.

Well, the autopsy results are in, and they confirmed that cocaine was found in his system. From The Associated Press:

Philip Seymour Hoffman died from toxic mix of drugs, including heroin, cocaine, NYC coroner says

A spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner said Friday that Hoffman died from a mix of her*in, coc*ine, amphetamines and benzodiazepines (ben-zoh-dy-AZ’-uh-peens), which are psychoactive drugs such as Librium.

The death was ruled an accident.

Police had been investigating his death as a suspected drug overdose.

Law enforcement officials have said Hoffman was found Feb. 2 with a needle in his arm, and tests found heroin in samples from at least 50 packets in his Manhattan apartment.

The 46-year-old star of “Capote” and “The Master” said in interviews last year that he had sought treatment for a heroin problem after 23 years of sobriety.

Combining her*in and coc*ine is sometimes known as “speedballing” or “powerballing.” The coc*ine acts as a stimulant while the her*in acts as a depressant. John Belushi, Chris Farley, River Phoenix – and now Philip Seymour Hoffman – all died while speedballing.

      yeah i think the same!!

BG: Man, what in heaven’s name is he thinking?

Actor: Jim carrey like Bruce Almighty

  1. leelee44 says

    Actor: George Clooney

Hints: Was in the biggest movie this season Gravity, has won 2 oscars, admitted to struggling with alcohol in interviews, was filming Tommorowland in Florida, “what in heaven’s name” is referring to being up in the sky, referencing the movie Gravity.

    • Booboo1068 says

I think George has a drinking issue, smokes and has admitted to having chronic pain issues which from experience can equal a reliance on pain drugs. Alcohol is also classed as a drug (depressant). But I do agree this Blind sounds more like an issue with drugs like cocaine etc.

  2. donkeykong says

    Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Catching Fire is the big movie.

Mockingjay is being filmed in Atlanta.

    • elliedee says

Agree. So sad, I hope he can overcome this – he’s one of the best actors around and has young children who need him healthy.

      • FamousPeopleDoStupidThings says

Ugh! Say it isn’t so! Hoffman is one of my all time favorite actors. If you’re right, and I think you are, I pray he seeks help again soon.

    • happybee says

Yep, could totally see it being him. With him just recently in rehab it wouldn’t be that surprising though.

  3. neartstarlet says

    Actor: Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Clues: “mastered his addiction” – was in the movie “The Master”
“what in heavens name is he thinking” – one of the biggest movies of the season is Hunger Games: Catching Fire; his characters name is Plutarch Heavensbee

  4. TeacherKat says

Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Mastered refers to “The Master,” “heaven” refrrs to his role in “Doubt” and he’s in Catching Fire, the biggest movie of the season. He’s filming Mockingjay in the south. That’s such a shame to hear.

  5. kermit1969 says

Phillip Seymour Hoffman – Star of The Master and “what in heaven’s name” would be a reference to his role as the priest in doubt.

    Colin Farrell

He was recently filming in Georgia & I think the reference to heaven is a clue pertaining to ‘Ballykiss Angel’.

I hope he gets help soon.

  10. Christyd says

Wes Bentley? Had an addiction heroin, currently filimg The Hunger Games: Mockingjay in Georgia and won a SAG Award for his role in American Beauty.

  11. jackballjonez says

its really phillip seymour filming hunger games in atlanta, not gods pocket that was in NY.

  12. redstilettos says

Someone in the Hunger Games cast since Catching Fire is one of the biggest films of the year and Mockingjay is being shot in Atlanta.

  13. gotu says

It seems like it could be either Robert Downing Jr. (Ironman III) or Philip Seymour Hoffman (Catching Fire); I hope not.

  14. janemare says

Ugh, I hate to say this but…

    Philip Seymour Hoffman

    Say it isn’t so!

This very talented, award-winning actor – won many awards, top Academy Award for Capote

he had mastered his addiction for good – he was in The Master

one of the biggest films of the season – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

  15. EastlakeGirl says

Please don’t let it be Robert Downey, Jr. There is a movie called Chef that he is filming and it takes place in the Southern US.

  16. mbrown104 says

Phillip Seymour Hoffman — filming Hunger Games in Atlanta, his character is named Plutarch ‘Heaven’sbee

  17. FunnyFace says

    -Philip Seymour Hoffman
-“mastered” and he was in “The Master”
-“what in heaven’s name” PSH plays Plutarch Heavensbee in Catching Fire.

  18. everandever says

    Philip Seymour Hoffman

Clues: “Mastered” and his role in the Hunger Games series being Plutarch Heavensbee.

  19. KitKat73 says

Philip Seymour Hoffman- Oscar winner. Tons of Catching Fire movie clues which is the biggest film. They wee filming in Goergia. He’s battled with drug addiction and his character name in Catching Fire is Plutarch Heavensbee…hence, “what in heaven’s name is he thinking?” and ” thought he had mastered his addiction for good” he is the game master in the movie.

  20. sparkle.burnout says

At first I got scared that this might be Robert Downey Jr., especially the “Man what in. . .” reference. But Iron Man 3 came out in May, so not really this season. I wonder if the Man thing refers to Will Ferrell for Anchorman. I think I’m missing something though with the clue “Heaven’s name.”

  21. Booboo1068 says

I know people are going to guess Charlie Sheen but he’s not in a feature film this year so…wrong.

Sadly, my guess is RDJ (I hope I’m wrong)

  22. Katska says

    Actor: Robert Downey Jr

I can’f find details of the movie he was filming, but the clue that tips me off is in the last sentence of the BI… ‘Man’ – for ‘Iron Man’, the movie that cemented his box-office success after his comeback.

  23. suzcol2 says

Oh no! Philip Seymour Hoffman? Clues- mastered his addiction- he starred in The Master. What in heavens name- he played a priest in Doubt.

  24. NYCAccountant says

    Actor: Robin Williams

Very talented: American actor, voice actor, and stand-up comedian

Biggest films of the season: The Butler

Awards: Academy award, two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammy Awards

“Man, what in heaven’s name is he thinking?”: What Dreams May Come

  25. NotoriousDiG says

Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Another clue: “but it’s true…Man…” As in, he played Truman Capote.

  26. exit81 says

It’s not RDJ. The last movie he filmed (The Judge) filmed mainly in Boston and Chicago. Ace is good enough that he would have said “biggest movie of the year” or “biggest of the summer” if it was Iron Man 3 he was talking about, not “this season”.

That said, this is someone from the Hunger Games, probably Phillip Seymour Hoffman (character’s name in the Hunger Games movies is “Heavensbee”) or Woody Harrelson, both in Atlanta filming the next one.

  27. Fan says

    Phillip Seymour Hoffman
    “Mastered” referring to “The Master”
Mockingjay has been filming somewhere around Atlanta

  28. itstruewhattheysay says

    It’s Phillip Seymour Hoffman
    Filmed Mockingjay in Georgia
    He ‘a been to rehab

  29. tarap says

PSH recently completed rehab for a relapse of a heroin addiction. So it’s likely him. Hope he’s still sober

  30. dontpanik says

Actor: (I really hpe this isn’t )Robert Downey Jr.

The blind capitalized “Man” ie Iron Man.
upcoming movie “Chef” was filming in Austin, TX

  31. SuzNYC says

Robert Downey Jr. isn’t filming anything right now. Philip Seymour Hoffman is on location in Georgia…it makes sense, but is very sad. Being bored in GA is probably the worst place for him. Hope he gets right back on the clean machine.

    • SuzNYC says

Also, he is filming a movie right now called: God’s Pocket. “What in Heaven’s Name is he thinking” clue.

  32. channel orange says

This is one time that I’m sad to know my guess in a blind is probably correct. Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of my favorite actors. I hope he gets help before it’s too late. :(

  33. silver_girl81 says

Philip Seymour Hoffman has admitted that he relapsed with snorting heroin, after a 23 year old period of sobriety. I believe he checked into rehab earlier this year. I hope he gets back on track, he’s a great actor.

  34. just4fun says

this is so sad – rdj. all of the sites to him are rdjheaven – check tumblr, redux, Facebook….. they are RDJ Heaven is 100% dedicated to the greatest man ever, Robert Downey Jr.! Given that and Iron Man, I hear it is him… sooooo disappointing.

  35. bgobsessed says

    Philip Seymour Hoffman!
“mastered his addiction” – his movie “The Master”
“catching a show” – Hunger Games: Catching Fire
“heaven’s name” – his character is named Plutarch Heavensbee in the Hunger Games

  36. BexSteve says

….and now I just saw Philip Seymour Hoffman died of a suspected overdose per the NY Post and WSJ. Sad. Once someone is over 18 they can pretty much do whatever they want to themselves, which is only amplified by fame and money I suppose.

  37. EastlakeGirl says

This is so sad now that Philip Seymour Hoffman has died of a drug overdose. I mean the needle was sticking out of his arm!! This really needs to stop.

  38. funkyhomosapien says

I’m guessing that this should be marked as solved.
Philipp Seymour Hoffman was found dead today :(

    • mugofmead111 says

I guess we’re waiting for the NYC medical examiner to issue an official cause of death first.

  39. TulipInBloom says

Very sad to hear of PSH’s passing. Addicts are so vilified but they’re sick and we need to help them instead of giving up their secrets to gossip sites. Shout those secrets to the world so they’ll get help!

  40. Phoebe says

When I went to BlindGossip Home yesterday, oddly this was the post that came up first. Were you about to solve it Ace, or was this a scary coincidence? :-(

  41. elliedee says

2 months to the day after Ace posted this BI PSH dies. I wish I had prayed harder for his recovery; this makes me so sad for him and his family, especially those 3 children.

  42. pumpkin says

This is so sad. He was one of my favorite actors, a true genius on the stage and screen. It’s unfortunate that he had so much less control in his personal life.

There’s no way people close to him didn’t know he was using again. They did him no favors by covering it up. But in the end, only PSH could have saved himself.

  43. phlyfiremama says

This BI was the very first thing I thought of when I heard he had died. What a waste of a life and a talent~I hope that his family finds peace with this ASAP. The only time I have ever wished (or even cared) that a BI wasn’t true. What a tragic loss.

  44. rudy says

    Rest In Peace Philip.

    You were my favorite actor.

My heart goes out to your family and your friends.

    May all our demons disappear.

  45. Kingdo Goodbomber says

So basically everyone around him knew he was chasing the dragon and nobody did anything to intervene? Why not?

That’s terrible. Where were his friends? His partner throws him out of the house but doesn’t do anything to intervene and even lets him visit the kids even though he is on smack? Ugh….

    • LooLoo says

It isn’t illegal for a drug addict to see his kids. If there is a visitation order in place, it’s really tough to get it changed. Saying “he’s an addict” without proof would be a waste of time. The bottom line is that this was an adult who chose to do dangerous drugs. It wasn’t anyone’s place to intervene. It was his fault, not the fault of the people around him.

  46. Stinkweed says

“…what in heaven’s name is he thinking?”

Addicts don’t think about what they are doing to themselves or to others. I’m sure if given the choice, he’d have not slipped and certainly wouldn’t have left his children fatherless.

As for the comments about why no one intervened: What were people supposed to do? He was a grown adult. There’s nothing you can do to force someone to get help until you can prove that they are a danger to themselves or to others. Even then it’s not easy to force them to do anything that they aren’t ready to do for themselves.

Addiction is a hard, nasty thing to deal with at every level.

    • Booboo1068 says

I agree. There’s always players in the world of an addict to enable and their demons that usually keep them going back for another (maybe LAST) high. Blame means there was a conscious intent to do harm and if you know addict or treat them you know the addiction itself takes over and thinking about ANYTHING else besides your next hit/ high etc becomes increasingly hard. IF they get and stay sober long enough they may be clear headed enough to be aware of the extent of the damage caused to themselves and those around them. When an addict is using you’re talking to drugs/ alcohol NOT the person and EVERYTHING is filtered through the addiction. I’m PSH loved his kids as best he could and it seems did try to get help but sadly like too many in this industry he and his team probably made protecting his image and career more important then his LIFE. What good are his image and career to him now?

Sadly, he’s not the first celeb and won’t be the last by a long shot to lose their life to addiction…but as long as their precious image/ ego and others profit off them are safe right?

  47. wendy hood says

Drugs are simply band aids one puts over his eyes so he doesn’t have to face his own emotional demons. We all have those band aids, they just might not be as immediately fatal as drugs. PSH never conquered his DEMONS, his drug habit was 100% a symptom of THAT. Look at him, he abstained for 20+ years! Im sure some statistics would count him as a someone that beat addiction! Simply staying away from the substance without facing the demons will produce unbalanced behavior in other areas of one’s life, always blocking the person from emotional fulfillment and instead seeking to release that serotonin and dopamine in other ways.

Frustrating as anything that people are so all-consumed with demonizing drugs. The people that have given up on themselves usually die, and the people that don’t give up stick around, regardless of getting the message, “Drugs are bad, mmmkay?”

  48. 15milliondollarbunny says

You need to update this story again–Bar Katz is suing for $50 million saying the story is false. The papers were just filed in NY court.

  49. raslebol says

National Enquirer and Radar present their apologizes and recognize they never talked to the real Katz

  50. Booboo1068 says

Thanks for the update Ace. I’m sure you’ve lost friends to this disease as well.

Speaking from personal experience of those who were very close to me and others, the ones who have recovered and go on to live healthy, productive lives WITH their addiction (we all know it’s not cured only managed) and others I’ve lost. The ones who died simply couldn’t think or see past the pain and addiction anymore. I’m sure somewhere inside they wanted to live but it was too late as drugs had done too much damage to body and mind. Most don’t intend to OD or have their last high (and breath), sadly they’re not thinking clear enough. Maybe PSH really wanted to stay clean but for reasons only he understood the addiction got a hold again.

My sincere sympathies go to PSH’s family and friends and to anyone dealing with addiction. I hope this story and sadly future celeb deaths will help save others.

Thanks for the updates Ace. I’m sure you’ve lost friends to this disease as well.

  51. Bamadex says

The National Enquirer needs to check their sources better.

This was a stupid and ultimately expensive case of rushing to get a juicy story into print.
