Taylor Swift and The Ranting Dude

taylor swift red[New York Magazine via Vulture] Taylor Swift told me she could imagine a time when she’d stop performing and just be a writer. “When I’m 40 and nobody wants to see me in a sparkly dress anymore, I’ll be, like: ‘Cool, I’ll just go in the studio and write songs for kids.’ It’s looking like a good pension plan.”

Perhaps. But Swift’s songwriting may be too quirky, too personal, to fit all comers. Swift’s parents named her after James Taylor, and she has a seventies-folkie’s soul; she is a confessor, a memoirist.

You could call Swift a generational bard: She merges the pleasures of old-fashioned songcraft with millennial social-media oversharing. There’s no doubting the artfulness of Swift’s best status updates. Red’s centerpiece is “All Too Well,” co-written with songwriter Liz Rose, a frequent collaborator. If the Internet is to be believed, “All Too Well” is about Jake Gyllenhaal, whose romance with Swift convulsed the tabloids in late 2010.

“I heard from the guy that most of Red is about,” Swift said. “He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’ That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude. It’s a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it—but one of those people happened to be a songwriter.”

Red is mostly about Jake Gyllenhaal.
I think the email dude is John Mayer. He was the most vocal about being pissed when she took jabs at him on the last album, and I think a few were about him on Red. Plus he seems like someone who who’s written a crazy email or two in his day.

Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer which is really sad because they both lasted for a minute.

None of Red was about Harry. Red came out months before they even started dating.
I have no idea but maybe about John Mayer? or Joe Jonas?

  • newsjunkie

Personally I could care less about her songs about her fake relationships

22, I Knew You Were Trouble, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – definitley about Harry Styles. Who even knows about the rest. And more importantly who cares because it was a publicity stunt.

    • jakefrmstfarm

Ummm…Red was written way before she even “dated” Harry. In fact the Red CD had already come out by the time that whole thing started. So no way are any of her songs about Harry Styles, not even “I Knew You Were Trouble”. Obviously you seem to care a lot about the publicity stunt, considering you can’t look past it to see that Taylor hasn’t released any songs about Harry…YET.

The Guy who most of Red is about: Jake Gyllenhaal

Ranting Crazy Email Dude: John Mayer LOL

  • narz

I am ruling out Jake G. because I am pretty sure that was a P.R relationship.
Also ruling out Harry S. because the album came out before they “dated” and another P.R. relationship.

I think RED is mostly about John Mayer and he would describe it like a photo album.

I think ranting crazy email guy: Connor Kennedy, because he is young and impulsive and more likely to communicate via email.

Also, none of her relationships last more than two to three months, yet she is able to procure so much emotion and feeling to write songs based on them? Talent.

  • ravenglass

Who the hell knows? I can’t keep up with all her “boyfriends”.
“You could call Swift a generational bard” I call her a generational beard.

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is about Joe Jonas

I don’t know the rest. I’m sure there is an ode to John Mayer in there somewhere.

Ready for crazy Swift fan? Here goes:

    22: her girlfriends
    All Too Well: Jake G.
    Begin Again: Conor Kennedy
Everything Has Changed (featuring Ed Sheeran): This seems like a pretty standard “love at first sight” inspired song.
    Holy Ground: Jake G.
    I Almost Do: Joe Jonas
I Knew You Were Trouble: John Mayer. I don’t buy the Harry Styles rumor.
    Red: Jake G.
    Sad Beautiful Tragic: Jake G.
Starlight: Ethel Kennedy – it’s a tribute to her life/love
    State of Grace: Jake G.

The Last Time (featuring Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol): Jake G.
    The Lucky One: Joan Jett
Treacherous: I think John Mayer again
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together: I always thought Joe Jonas, but general consensus is Jake G.

Guy Who most of Red is about: Connor Kennedy

Ranting Crazy Email Dude: Jake Gyllenhaal or maybe Joe Jonas

I can’t remember all the hidden liner note clues/messages, but I do recall that Track 10′s message was “For Ethel” who is Connor’s grandmother. And she and Connor only broke up shortly before Red was released, so there wasn’t much time for her to write a ton of vindictive tracks… Pretty sure “Begin Again” is about him as well.

  • TruthBeTold

I don’t know,it could be anyone. All I know is that looking through the list of her ex bf
[googled it of course] almost all of them are rumoured to be gay, so what is she complaining
about? If I know that doesn’t she?

  • Kerzep

    Jake Gyllenhall

    John Mayer

  • mugofmead111

I would *love* for ranting crazy e-mail dude to be John Mayer. “I Knew You Were Trouble.” The man had a rep! He’s also a songwriter.

  • bleargh

Most of Red is about: Jake Gyllenhall
    Email Dude: John Mayer

This is my guess, all of them are about Jake except:
    22 – neither of them, just a girl’s song.
I Knew You Were Trouble – I still think this is John Mayer and she said Harry Styles publicly because John was so bent out of shape and she probably wanted him to stop emailing her.
Sad Beautiful Tragic – John Mayer
Starlight – Kennedy kid’s Grandparents because she has stated it outright.
The Lucky One – Joni Mitchell
    Treacherous – John Mayer

    The Guy: Jake Gyllenhaal
    Ranting Dude: John Mayer
Big Taylor Swift fan here. Taylor is a storyteller, and yes her albums are mostly her own stories/feelings. But don’t forget that she started out at age 14 working for Sony as a songwriter for others. She still tells other people’s stories in song as evidenced by #10 Starlight which is the story of Ethel and Robert Kennedy; “Ronan” the 4yr cancer victim; “Eyes Open” and “Safe and Sound” for the Hunger Games soundtrack; “Sweeter than Fiction” for the One Chance movie (about Paul Potts). There are rumored collaborations with Selena Gomez and Ed Sheeran among others, that haven’t been heard yet. So don’t count her out. Her skills as a songwriter will be much sought after even when she is done with touring on her own.

  • BoA

I think it’s funny that she talks about the ranting dude as a songwriter when she pretty much made her whole career off of boys dumping her

  • Booboo1068

Wasn’t Taylor just JG’s beard? I’m sure there was one or more Blinds about a similar situation where they were the top guess. If the song is about her past professional fauxmance (from what I read she’s had more than one) both she and JG win from the PR and if he is gay than it helps to extend her role as beard as the supposedly broken hearted ex…no? Maybe others can comment who know more (cause we know ACE does).

  • JustGuessing

The Guy who most of Red is about: Jake Gyllenhaal – All too Well, Begin Again, The Last Time maybe even Red?
Ranting Crazy Email Dude: no ideia, ex-boyfriend?

  • JennUx

Red has to be mostly about John Mayer, simply because she’s over Joe as said in state of grace, seems on good terms with Connor Kennedy and Jake/Harry/Taylor L were all fake relationships.
Begin Again, I knew you were trouble, treacherous, all too well (because although many speculate it was jake, that was a FAKE relationship), sad beautiful tragic and the last time must be about him.

  • Fergus

Was it John Mayer that introduced her to anal? I thought I read that somewhere.

  • stolidog

It doesn’t matter who the songs are about, because as soon as Mariah Carey reads that remark about being 40 and nobody wanting to see her, she’s gonna stomp right over and knock the sparkle right out of little Taylor.

  • officerock

Most of red is about: John Mayer
Email Dude: Joe Jonas or Conor Kennedy?
If any of these songs are about a real not PR relationship then i would assume most of the songs are about John Mayer. There was a blind from early this year saying that he was her last real relationship and that the rest have been PR and she beards for them. I think Conor was a real relationship so some of these are probs about him. Maybe some of these are about Joe Jonas.

  • makenna2j

why why OH WHY is anyone even saying Harry Styles. The whole album was done before the fake relationship even started…..

    • jakefrmstfarm

Where’s the like button? Tired of these obsessed “Directioners” who have the gall to claim Taylor is obsessed with Harry when they’re all obsessed with bringing her down. That was a PR relationship and I’m pretty sure they are both well past it, I wish their fans would get passed it as well. I’m not even a huge Taylor fan, just think all of the Harry/Taylor crap is lame.

  • audreyhepburn

    1 – 22 – her friends
2 – All Too Well – Jake Gyllenhaal
    3 – Begin Again – herself ?
4 – Everything Has Changed – Connor Kennedy
    5 – Holy Ground – Joe Jonas ?
6 – I Almost Do – Adam – Owl City (she wrote ‘Enchanted’ for him and he aswer w/ a cover on his web page saying that she never answered his calls)
7 – I Knew You Were Trouble – Harry Styles (rumors started after they met at PCA – april/march – and he was caught with Emma Ostilly like,1 month later. She saw trough the papers but ‘aparently’ they tried again)
    8 – Red – Jake Gyllenhaal
9 – Sad Beautiful Tragic – Jake Gyllenhaal
    10 – Starlight – Ethel Kennedy
11 – State of Grace – Jake Gyllenhaal
12 – Stay Stay Stay – Connor Kennedy
13 – The Last Time – John Mayer

    15 – Treacherous – John Mayer
16 – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Jake Gyllenhaal

How can she write songs about fake romances? two actors and one singer are gays and their relationships a PR office fabrication. She’s smart, she can keep playing the “heartbroken girl” part…

  • curlyandclever

I’m not sure what it is about her that picks me so badly but I couldn’t give a fraction of a % of a crap about who she writes her awful music about.

  • crimson23

You guys, we read tons of blinds that JG is gay, so why would any love songs from Taylor be about him?
We also read about set ups with these stars so all guesses like Styles are not real. They don’t last, because they are not real.
I thought she was actually dating one of her bodyguards last year.

  • jackballjonez

how can her songs have any credibility when 95% of the time shes a beard. She should write a song called Shaved Again

  • sam41

The Guy who most of Red is about: Jake G. Also, if Tay bearded for him, I actually doubt she knew about it. Beards aren’t always in the know. Her performance of “All Too Well” at one of her concerts made her cry, and I don’t think she’s that good of an actress. I’ve seen Valentine’s Day.

Though I do think she knows about Harry.

  • JaneDawson

John Mayer already confessed to emailing her after Dear John came out in RollingStone. He just conveniently left out the fact he attacked her work and cursed about it, because she didn’t respond. What a loser.

Jake Gyllenhaal for the breakup songs on Red, Conor Kennedy for the love songs and obviously Jonas for Holy Ground.

I’m sorry, I’m still not over what a pathetic dick John Mayer is. An email to rebut being dumped? Good Lord! Ego the size of Saturn.

  • LooLoo

Her “guess which guy? schtick has worn incredibly thin. There’s only so far she can take that before she stops looking like a fun-loving girl in relationship after relationship. She’s looking more and more like a sl*t or a woman too immature or too unlikable to make a relationship work.

  • augustmom

How about this for a theory: very few of her songs are about any ex, it’s just all PR to keep people…ahem…talking about her. She’s been a beard, mostly, she’s a child with childish emotions…maybe it’s all BS!

  • KatarinaJ

if u google this…. you see references to Jake but I am sure he was so so called dignified about it was because they were a big fraud.
I can see Mayer bing furious and emailing. bet she pretends the album is about jake…. keeping up the facade. all that angst and imagination comes from what ifs and frustration over pr set ups and bearding. lol

  • YoGo8c

    Absolutely no-one imo.

Whole thing is a gimmick based on mostly faux relationships that get people talking and guessing.

If there’s one guy that might waste time rant at her, drunk or otherwise, I’d say Mayer but even then, it’s probably bullshit.

Everyone’s moved on. Wish Taylor would.

  • Lefemmenikita

The ranting dude is John Mayer. In another article, it refers to the crazy dude as being a song writer (which rules out Gylanhall)

  • catheca

The ranting email dude is probably Joe Jonas.. John Mayer is also a song writer. Jonas is not.

    • mugofmead111

Is he the Jonas with the alleged drug problem (and the problematic new girlfriend)? That would make sense.

Clues from the “Dwarves” blind item series may point to that too.

  • bubba68

Taylor and Harry had a brief fling back before their “official’ relationship. She really liked him but broke it off with him because she heard he was flirting heavily with some model. Then later they decided to give it another try-thats when they got all the publicity. I Knew You were Trouble is absolutely about him.

He got the tattoos from the video! Why else would he do that? And why do I know this?

Anyway my blind guess is Jakey is the guy Red is about and probably John Mayer as the jerk.

  • KatarinaJ

Maybe i should toss out the reverse of everyone’s assumptions with the Jakey and Mayer guesses. If blinds about Jake being a coke fiend and nasty to fans are true, maybe HE is the one with the emails. Maybe Mayer, who is a d-bag, but also a songwriter and artist himself (and because HE wronged her supposedly) commended Taylor on using material for fodder. I’d also imagine more that this is about Mayer because I think he truly hurt her and used her and is known to be the ladies man. Jake, if we are to be believed, was a PR set up so how would it be material for anything? Still also makes sense why he’d be annoyed with her about writing about him.

Still, can’t imagine that she’d even WRITE songs about Jake that were emotional if all this is true… unless she was hoping to have a real relationship with him and it never happened.

Mayer is the one who’d truly conjure up emotion and passion and anger if he is the one she was on fire with.

  • OG LOC

I think it’s most about Jake she dated him the longest, I’m sure some other songs are about other guys but most about Jake and I don’t think John Mayer cried over breaking it off with Taylor.
