How Not To Honor Your Friend

dog tennis ballSOLVED!

[Blind Gossip] The cast of Glee is in shock over the passing of their colleague and friend, Cory Monteith. One specific cast member was walking around a store in SoHo yesterday with three friends, talking about how they would like to honor Cory.

“I’m going to get a dog. And I’m going to name him ‘Cory Monteith’,” said the Glee cast member.

“That would be disrespectful,” said one of the friends.

“No, it’s not! It would be cool! That way, whenever I talk to him, it will be like having Cory around. Come here, Cory Monteith! Get the ball, Cory Monteith!”

“That’s an incredibly stupid idea,” said another friend.

“Well, I like it, and I’m going to do it,” said the Glee cast member.

SOLVED!

It’s Chord Overstreet from Glee! Source: BlindGossip.com

Cory Monteith died on July 13, 2013. This conversation among Chord and his friends happened at the All Saints store in SoHo on the afternoon of July 16, 2013.

The original blind item pretty much tells the rest of the story.

chord overstreet ashley bensonChord owns several dogs (Harley, Apollo, and Banjo?) so he clearly loves animals. To the left is a pic of Ashley Benson of Pretty Little Liars kissing a dog that Chord is holding.

We don’t believe that Chord he has obtained a new dog in the past few months. When he does, we hope that he chooses a name that won’t make people wince quite as much.

Congratulations to Melly123, who was first with the correct guess!

Darren Criss is in NYC, isn’t he? I can see him doing this and trying to get points with the public for it.

    • celebiddy says

i went to high school with darren criss and can assure you that he is an incredibly kind and genuine person. i was on the costume department for all the plays and musicals of which he was the star every time. so i interacted with him very frequently and can guarantee you that he is one of the nicest, coolest, most respectful guys you will ever meet. i actually bumped into him at a bookstore a year ago and was shocked that he remembered my name and even came up and gave me a hug. great kid, this is not him. he’s way more intelligent then this.

      • La Llorona says

Yeah but that was back then. I mean it’s cool he remembered you, but just because you had nice, occasional interactions with him doesn’t mean you really know him intimately enough to say he isn’t an asshole 24/7. He could be a nice person to work with but that somehow doesn’t necessarily translate to someone you’d want to chill with on downtime. -OR- He could just have had a really bad interaction with Cory, or he’s a really clueless person.

      • celebiddy says

i’m not “darren’s people” just trying to defend someone. are you all really so jaded you don’t believe someone can be a nice good person?? fame messes with a lot of people but not everyone turns into an asshole. and i actually did chill with him “on downtime” at parties and shit and he was just as nice and friendly and love-able as always. just because his talents are in singing and acting and he has succeeded in that field doesn’t make him a prick.

      • La Llorona says

OMFG, calm down. I’m just saying, be open to the possibilities, damn…There’s lots of stories of someone meeting a celebrity and they have a 2 minute interaction with them and that person decides “WELL SO AND SO ISN’T BAD.” That doesn’t mean this blind is about him, but I can understand how anyone came come across badly if they’ve interacted with them over a prolonged period of time.

      • Jennifer says

Actually, I’d believe Celebiddy on this one. Darren Criss was “famous” in the Harry Potter fandom for years before he was on Glee (wizard rock is why he got the Glee role) and the folks from two of the biggest HP fansite always had great things to say about him.

    • annasophie says

for one, i think she is too mature for that. second, i think she already has a dog.

    • nicky says

Can’t be her, she was papped in LA on the 16th, out with Jenna Ushkowitz and Diana Agron.

  2. demoiselle says

People grieve in very strange ways, especially when they are in shock. I have no guess about which person this could be. Darren Criss, perhaps.

  3. I Am PunkA says

So which cast member wanted to boss him around like he was a puppy? Hmm, lets think about that one.

  4. Kelly says

Harry Shum? I can picture it a little. Chris C and Kevin seem way too normal to think of that especially if their friends were against it,

  5. stolidog says

Well, I don’t think this is that terrible an idea, I have trees in my garden named after my partner’s mother and father and he goes out and talks to them by name sometimes, but, regardless, I’ll say Chord Overstreet, because he seems simple that way.

    • MrsBreeder says

A tree isn’t going to take a dump on your rug.

I don’t know enough about the Glee cast, but I would say NOT Jane Lynch. This seems like a younger person– for some reason, a guy.

      • La Llorona says

I hear a guy saying this too. A young, cocky guy with some arrogance to him. He doesn’t even sound like he’s being all that serious about it. Like he’s saying it because he thinks it’s funny and he has some personal grievances he’s trying to air.

  6. thefantasticspazzomatic says

Said an idiot. I don’t watch Glee, so who appears dumb and airheaded?

    • celebiddy says

no, stop! i’m telling you darren was one of those kids who literally EVERYONE liked. not one person ever had anything bad to say about him. total sweet heart!

      • melly123 says

It’s not Darren Chris. He was very somber when he was out and wore a black ribbon because he is in mourning

  7. samsayssix says

Chord Overstreet. I think Chord is in New York with Hot Chelle Rae (his brother’s band). He’s *that* dumb.

  8. myhippieversion says

Isn’t Chord Overstreet in New York? This sounds like something he would say and I agree, t’s really disrespectful

  9. slantrhyme says

What an idiot. I don’t know enough about Glee to know which cast member would be in Soho now, or which one is a complete tool.

  10. lily is my puppy says

Maybe the Glee cast member was on drugs when he/she had this inspiration. I can understand naming a dog Cory, but Cory Monteith?!

  11. GossipSauce says

This cannot be for real. What a twit. Maybe Britney S. Pierce in character…. But not anyone IRL… No way….

  12. hannahjones says

chord overstreet. The clue would be the tennis balls.
A line in glee was said to his character sam ‘how many tennis balls can you fit in your mouth’ or something along those lines, because he has a big mouth.
Plus didnt he do something for a baseball team

  13. LeahLynn28 says

    I don’t watch Glee and i know only two cast members names top,i can’t guess now…but this person,whoever he/she is,is an idiot.I can imagine him/her calling the puppy…”come here,Cory Monteith!” or “Good boy…!”.That’s ridiculous…Cory Monteith was a person,and this situation is very disrespectful and childish.I love dogs,but i would never give a human name,mainly a dead friend’s name…that’s stupid.

  14. ValleyOfTheGalls says

I don’t think it’s disrespectful, although some people who don’t love dogs as much as I do might. Unlike humans, a dog will never let you down. I’d be honored if a friend named his/her beloved pet in memory of me.

  15. stolidog says

Kinda agree. As long as it’s done with genuine affection, I think it’s kind of dorky sweet.

  16. celebiddy says

when one of my dad’s best friends passed away my parent’s named their new dog after him, i don’t think it’s necessarily disrespectful. in that case i thought it was a beautiful ode to a great man. i think this would be acceptable for someone incredibly close to cory but if it’s just a shallow idiot looking for attention then yes, this is in poor taste.

    • La Llorona says

Yeah exactly, there are people who do this. Personal story time: I lost a family member of mine (VERY closely related) to a drug addiction. He went out the same way Cory Monteith did: Heroin and prescription drugs. His father bought a dog (a cute dog with blonde accents) that he named after his dead son. Are we really going to sit here and tell him he’s an ass for how he mourns? But the difference is this guy is probably doing it to be stupid. He doesn’t sound sincere in naming his dog after this guy. At least, it doesn’t come across that way in text.

  17. lovelula87 says

naya rivera. her ‘remember when i was 17’ (or whatever that mtv show was called) showed her being pretty stupid/naive about having a dog.

but with that said, cory’s death is still so fresh and they will all be grieving in their own way, so i can’t judge.

better that they get a dog and do that than turn to drugs themselves to cope.

    • Lizz says

that being said… yeah it’s not the smartest idea but I don’t think it’s terribly offensive or insensitive… People grieve in their own ways and I’ve seen people name dogs after people all the time so.

  18. firefly07 says

Dianna Agron has a new puppy, and she was also spotted with co-stars Jenna Ushkowitz and Jane Lynch the other day.

    • HermioneG says

They were in LA. I’m sure Dianna has her own dirty laundry but being that insensitive? Gosh, I hope not. She seems to be a genuine good person and soul.

    • Nightingale says

Yeah, but this was in NY,she was spotted in LA, besides she had the puppy before Cory’s death.

  19. matthew netting says

This seems sick and vindictive, or innocent and stupid, it seems too stupid a statement for Darren Criss, so it’s either Mark Salling or Chord Overstreet, just because Mark seems to be extremely grieving over this I would go for Chord Overstreet, he gives the impression of being “that” stupid.

  20. lovefifteen says

Chord Overstreet. The picture has a dog with a tennis ball in its mouth. There was a reference to tennis balls in his mouth on Glee. Also, he was named chord because he was the third child and there are three notes in a chord. He said this in an interview. He had three friends with him. Those are the only clues I can think of.

  21. Grammaticator says

It’s not Jane, Jenna, or Dianna. They were papped in LA having lunch.

I think you’re all underestimating Matt Morrison’s ability to be a d!@k. Remember that story Jonah Hill told about Matt making fun of him, when they had never met? It’s def him.. D-bag for the win.

    • La Llorona says

Oh God, YEAH! It could very well be him. Put Matthew Morrison down as my answer.

  22. stalkingdykes2 says

Ok, but the way the joke’s been said… do you guys think it’s an inoffensive association or was this person being mean and totally mocking him? Do you think that all the Glee cast members were grieving his death the same way, or some of them grieving at all? That’s the point. We have to know was kind of relationship this person used to have with Cory, but it’s difficult to figure out.

  23. thelasthigh says

I had no idea who he was before that blind about the nasty Emma Roberts calling him “Chord like chair” and now that’s all I think when I see his name! lol

  24. La Llorona says

Pfft, well whatever. He never got the dog anyway. He can kiss whatever career he has away if he does because I’m pretty sure Corey is going to indadvertedly become some sort of pariah.

  25. serasera says

I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it’s an incredibly stupid and offensive thing to do.

  26. mugofmead111 says

Naming a dog “Cory” sounds innocent enough. Naming the dog “Cory Monteith” and giving the dog commands like ” Come here, Cory Monteith! Get the ball, Cory Monteith!”” would be uncool.

On another note, the dog pictured above is too cute!
