So, if a kid wants to drink sugary barley water out of bottle when she is 6 years old (I’m looking at you, Leah Remini), then the kid is adult enough to make the right decisions for herself. If Suri refuses to walk, then she’s adult enough to know what’s best for her. No such thing as spoiling kids in Scientology, because that’s not how L. Ron Hubbard saw it. Never mind that many of LRH’s kids hated him and wanted nothing to do with Scientology.

The self-assured adults sounds like something Jada recently said, after talking about making her kids buy their own toys. Honestly I see that as smart though.
Letting kids rule nest, sounds like Suri Cruise. Remember they don’t tell her no and they never MAKE her wear a jacket. But haven’t heard family worrying about her.
So going with Jolie-Pitt clan. I do remember Brad talking about night time ritual where kids get out of bed at all hours. Another article I read talked about the house being a disaster. Plus we always hear her father (angelina’s dad) worry about her.
this can be attributed to any parent or parents who work unusual hours and sometimes have to work long hours…
Not just hollywood people but many people in the financial field who often travel do the same.
thats not spoiling….children should have a voice as to what they want to do and where they want to go. the are small for a short period of time and soon turn into teenagers that most likely will want to hang out with their friends rather than their parents.
giving children choices only solidify that their voices are important and keeps the lines of communications open.
Most kids have silly things they want to do and if it is within a parents reach and the parent takes into consideration the age of the child and the types of projects they can do as a family.. there is no harm in letting a child pick.
I remember this parent insisting wanting to take his child to the circus b/c he enjoyed as a kid but the daughter who was five at the time would complain she didn’t want to go. well this parent decided to overule the childs wishes and took the child anyway. that poor girl was crying thru the whole thing wile the parent was busy enjoying himself.
the point here was.. had the parent not put his interests ahead of his own fantasy of his childhood over his daughters wishes…had he bothered to ask his five year old…he would have found out that the poor girl was terrified of clowns and it gave her nightmares everytime he would drag her there.
LISTEN.. to your children.. they are little for a short time…Let them have fun and be silly..expose them to all that you can so they grow up not spoiled but rather well rounded.
dont be rigid… trust me the parents you’ve mentioned in your comments all have boundaries for thier children..they just let them be children..
People would get all bent out of shape when most of the kids in the nioeghborhood would show up at my house and my house would look a mess with so many kids…but like I said they are small for a short time …now they are all grown up and my house is finally quiet….truth is I miss the noisy house with the kids..

I agree with true parenting, adults disregard children as if they are unable to think for themselves. Children do need guidance but by listening to them and involving them in decision making you show them that you value what they have to say – which goes a long way in building self esteem. That story about the clowns reminded me of my daughter except when she told me that she didn’t want to go to the circus, I asked her why and she told me it was because she was afraid of the clowns that was the end of it. We planned other places to go that didn’t involve clowns. I share the same philosophy within reason but I am not a Scientologist. I read an article very similar to this about Brad and Angelina’s family.
