They have each told their respective families that they can’t attend Thanksgiving with them because their spouse has a film commitment out of town and they need to accompany them. Not true. No way is Chris Klein the dad. Suri looks waaaaay too much like Tom Cruise’s cousin, William Mapother, (creepy Ethan from “Lost”) to be Chris Klein’s kid. But I agree that it is this couple.

ummm, Chris Klein is the dad. he was w/ Katie before she was Cruise’s beard and there was an article in the tabs (quickly swept under the rug by the Scilons) about Klein blabbing to his friends in a bar about being Suri’s papa.
What about Hugh Jackman. Something about the line “…their genes have already passed down to the next generation.” That made me think of X-men.

Hugh Jackman’s wife isn’t in movies. Since they’re both using the same excuse, they’d both have to be involved with movies.
Jackman’s wife is in the movies, just not in Hollywood blockbusters. she’s more famous for her Australian TV roles. her name is Deborra-Lee Furness.

This is juicy. Clues – both are actors or work in film industry, not necessarily in front of the cameras, has kid/s, “spinning” (Spiderman reference? or just superhero?), passed genes onto next generation (Star Trek reference?).

It just occured to me that “tall tale” could mean that someone involved is extremely tall. But even Will doesn’t come to mind when I say that… I think someone like Tim Robbins, Chevy Chase, Kevin Nealon, Conan… 6′5 and above.

I’m with you! Family can be great, but if every Thanksgiving is torture, then why bother? Get together some other time when there’s no pressure.
I’m accepting of a lot, but even I find Christmas with “Husband+Wife+Husband/Wife’s Boyfriend/Girlfriend” a bit out there.
Definitely not Hugh Jackman, he is currently doing a play on Broadway and will be working that evening. It’s a two man show with Daniel Craig, saw it, lots of dialogue,no way could anyone do that under any kind of influence.

I disagree that ’spouse’ means married. Common-law spouses are not legally married.
they only been going out for a year. I thought you have to be with that person.. for a long time, before you are common law married.

I’m a lawyer, so let me step in here and make a legal clarification.
A couple in a “common-law” marriage ARE legally married. Common law marriage has been abolished in most states, and the specific criteria vary from state to state, but one common thread you see in all of the states’ criteria is that the couple has to hold themselves out to society to be husband and wife…i.e., the wife uses the husband’s surname, they refer to each other as their “husband/wife”, etc. As such, if they split up, those couples who are “common-law” married have to actually be legally divorced.
A couple is never “automatically” common-law married, even after living together for a length of time. The intent must be present with both parties to be “married.”
Reese and Jake are not married, common-law or otherwise. And yes, RocketQueen, “spouse” actually DOES mean “married.” Unmarried couples would be referred to as “partners” or “significant others.”
Thanks MizFab – we’re actually in agreement! The “blind” couple are supposedly spouses, so yes, Jake and Reese would qualify even though there’s been no actual wedding. Also, according to my snooping, they’ve been together almost three years.

Angie has no family to celebrate Thanksgiving with. Her mother passed away a couple of years ago and she is estranged from her father. I doubt she’d have to lie to her brother about such a thing. This isn’t them.

As Charlene said, the reason is simple – Australians, like Jackman’s parents, DON’T celebrate Thanksgiving. Wise up people – Thanksgiving is an American holiday. It means NOTHING to the rest of the world.
Thanksgiving is also a Canadian holiday.
Don’t Canadians celebrate their Thanksgiving on a different day?
Canadians celebrate it on the 2nd Monday in October.
