This Mo’Nique. She was just featured in People and it is clear that her legs are unshaven. Props to MediaTakeout.com for the answer!
agreed i saw that, gross at least wear nylons lol
yea, she hates to shave her legs
Monique?
This is documented no? It’s a well known fact Mo’nique doesn’t like to shave her legs.
Yeah, people have been commenting on this for years on the black gossip blogs.
Monique…
That’s who I was thinking too.
I think we have a winner! DING!DING!DING! She’s said this in interviews before.
But why she won’t shave her legs??
maybe she dont want to, some people thinks its gros but i dont think so.
Don’t really feel like digging through Mediatakeout, but one of their top stories was that Mo’Nique doesn’t shave…and a picture of her on the red carpet with hairy legs was included.
ok so I lied. the google search took me all of 5 seconds.
http://www.mediatakeout.com/2009/14643-oh_no_she_didnt_monique_shows_off_her_hairy_legs.html
In her defense- not that she really needs it because honestly, the societal pressure on women to shave is ridiculous- she did say that she had to let go of some of her hygiene habits while filming and in preparation for her role in Precious.
I think I’m gonna start judging guys who don’t shave their faces/chests/backs whatever, just because. Honestly, what does it matter if she doesn’t shave her legs. Their HER legs.
Um, they’re, not their. Too early in the morning, obviously.
yea i agree there is nothing wrong with this, who wrote the rules that women have to shave their legs..
I had a female teacher when I was at school and she never shaved her legs and aways used to come dressed in a skirt.
Some people just don’t want to shave their legs. I remember when this women from my church always had hairy legs, it was because her husband perfer them hairy.
The heavier you are, the harder it is to shave your legs because you can’t reach.
She’s not THAT heavy where she can’t reach her legs! LMAO
She talked about this one The View a couple of years ago, too. It’s actually really common for African-American not to shave, at last where I live (upper midwest, Great Lakes area).
its not just african american women, alot of women of different races does that.
Um. Patently FALSE. I am a black woman who lived in Chicago for 4 years. Where on earth you got this idea that not shaving is common, I don’t know. Feeling a bit offended right now.
Please. Do you actually believe everything you hear on The View? Black women shave their legs just as any other race of women.
This logic is so faulty. It’s like saying White women don’t shave their armpits because Julia Roberts showed up on the red carpet with busy armpits.
(rolls eyes)
Lady Marmalade, I also lived in the midwest, and what you’re saying is true. Not everybody is obsessed with shaving — and not everyone has to in the first place. For myself, I shaved my legs in high school gym class because that’s what the other girls did; it was a predominantly white school, and shaving was something one did to fit in, to feel ‘grown’. It was something one did because ‘that’s what you’re supposed to do’.
But after gym, I no longer did it. No peer pressure to do so.
To Clearly, you only lived in Chicago for 4 years? (schooling?) Where did you live before then? and after? did you yourself shave because you had to to feel clean, or because ‘that’s what everyone does’? And how would you know if the women you lived with shaved their legs, or if they just didn’t have to?
To Abeille, there’s nothing wrong with not shaving one’s legs. Just as there is nothing wrong with not shaving one’s pits or not shaving one’s groin. I do wonder who decided that there is something wrong, if you don’t? No, not everyone shaves their legs……… and that goes for white women, too. Some races just don’t have the body hair of other races. Mo’nique is just a black woman whose white ancestry is showing through on her calves. If she doesn’t mind, I’m not going to mind.
NO, YOU DIDN’T…
hey im a chunky girl but my fat gut doesnt get in the way of shaving my legs, in fact the other day i contorted my fat body in such a way that i didnt even know i had hair there! did i shave it? hell no.
It is NOT common amongst African-American not to shave their legs. She’s crass, fat and lazy. That’s why she doesn’t shave her legs. Let me reiterate,it is NOT common amongst African-American not to shave their legs. I’m from Michigan, and I am maintained my hygiene, so did my friends!
hygiene and shaving your legs are two separate things.
maybe i agree, whether oR not u have hairy legs is not part of personal hygiene. Personal hygiene includes, not showering, brushing your teeth or even not puttin on deodorant.
I hope you wasn’t serious. I think she don’t shave her legs cause her husband don’t want her too. I know people who don’t shave their legs because they say when there husband have sex with them, he like feeling the hair on their legs. I know, fetish right? But whatever floats your boat.
Bravo, Mo’Nique! What’s so amazing about a shaved leg that it has to be a BI?
yup, it’s her!! she’s been that way for a long time, even said she thought it was “sexy” yrs ago. Lets hope w/the success of Precious & her talk show she’ll change her mind cause it’s not sexy at all, somebody please tell her the truth…
Shaving your body hair has nothing to do with hygiene. It’s an aesthetic preference. I’m really tired of guys demanding that women shave their legs when 1) they’re not even your boyfriend or ANYTHING and 2) they don’t shave. Give me a break.
And to add, as an African American woman with coarse, curly hair, shaving and growing that back is PAINFUL. You are more susceptible to ingrown hairs and thus, infections and severe discomfort.
me having a thing for picking at scabs and ingrown hairs ( even tho i shouldnt) that sounds like fun.
LemonDrop, you are a wild one, darling.
I do know what you mean- I don’t mind messing with the few ingrown hairs on my thighs, but not a whole vagina. It’s like someone’s holding a match to my crotch when it grows back.
Guys i am in the health field actually the hairs on ourr body actually protects us from getting sick and its used for warmth.
then why doesn’t she just wax, if that’s why she isn’t shaving? With waxing, the hair grows back thinner, and i’ve never encounted an ingrown hair after waxing. But really, it’s her choice i guess, who really cares!
Oh God, waxing can be even WORSE for ingrown hairs, scabs, sensitive skin, etc. If shaving is painful/uncomfortable (of which I have first-hand experience), then waxing and other remedies are downright torture.
“I’m in the health field…” That’s utter nonsense. We have plenty of hairless skin areas and don’t get sick because of that. Some races (e.g. Japanese) have very little or no hair and they don’t get sick because of that.
Hair is no protection. It just picks up more dirt, sweat, bacteria and foul smell. What protects us is water and soap. Hygiene, that is. Some health field! Next, you’ll be saying that showering every day “is bad for your skin,” like an European.
Hairy legs are ugly and gross. If it turns someone’s lover on, fine, whatever. But that’s exception, not rule.
And there isn’t “too much pressure on women.” There is too little pressure on men. No excuse for cavemen in the 21st century.
Speaking of utter nonsense – Europeans do shower. Every day. Of course I can’t speak for everyone here, but saying that it’s a European thing not to shower every day is…well, utter nonsense doesn’t even BEGIN to describe it, you know?
Just a short note to educate you about worldwide hygiene standards. We’re not exactly backwards over here.
Oh, and it’s “a European”, not “an European”. Just FTR.
i never saiid european dont shower what i said was some women dont like to shave their pits ans legs.
scratch that u were talking to nick
I’m european. And i shower. Every day. Stop generalizing!
Again, this nonsense about the Japanese having little hair is ridiculous. My Japanese roommate would have a normal amount of hair on her body if she didn’t pluck it obsessively. I’ve seen many of my Asian friends pluck the hair from their arms, bellies, knuckles, face, etc. Heck, even I’ve started doing it just from being around her!
Can people stop with these stupid racial/ethnic generalizations?
Nick need to stop.lol
Wow, you need to read up about hair and why it’s a protection. Think about it, it’s there for a reason and not just to keep us warm.
Also you come off as ignorant when you make sweeping generalizations. I know some Japanese people and they have normal amounts of hair and wth, Europeans do keep themselves clean.
cc i agree, the main point that i made earlier is that race has nothing to do with it, women all over the wworld does this.
Nick it isnt nonsense we learn about this everyday, just like how the skin serve as a protective device for our bones, hairs are used for the same purpose. I never said anything about japanese women getting sick, what i said was the hairs on your skin can protect your body from certtain illnesse. nick these are some of the things i learn from my classess and my prof about the purpose of hair. I still have my notes from all those years ago. You are in the health field and you should know this.
The human nostril hairs have a purpose all their own. The lining of the inside of the nostrils is filled with short hairs. The purpose of these hairs is to work together with the mucous in the nostrils in catching particles such as dust and small bugs. This prevents them from entering into the lungs.
Hair in the human ears, act as a first defense mechanism. Along with human made wax it filters out and traps foreign objects such as bugs. This is essential in keeping infections away from the precious parts of our hearing components.
Hair on other parts of the body such as arms, legs, and the torso is for the purpose of keeping us warm. When cold temperatures occur, goose bumps rise on our skin. This causes hair follicles to stand erect. This erection causes some what of an insulator near the skin.
Lastly, human arm pit hair also has more than one purpose. One purpose is to trap bacteria. Another reason is to make it easier for you to move your arms. According to Arm Pit Hair .info “Armpit hair provides lubrication and lessens the friction of the skin between your arm and your body.”
Because the hair on your body doesn’t help maintain body temperature. Right.
Like your eyelashes don’t block foreign bodies from invading your eyeballs.
And really I could go on, but we shed all the unnecessary hair during evolution…what’s left is there for a reason.
Not to even mention, you look like an 8 year old girl when you scorch every last follicle off. Gross!
lolzer i agree, if you have even taken human biology in high school it explain everything. Nick must have been sleeping when he wrote that.lol
who really gives a damn who this is?
i agree, if u dont feel like shaving then so be it.
How can this even be a blind? I mean…if someone doesn’t shave their legs its pretty obvious lol, so not blind. Unless their pants are super glued on?
I am a female. Have never had to shave my legs..EVER. I have no hair on my arms or legs, but I have about 10 pounds of hair on my head..go figure.
LOL @Angery Blonde
I knew it was Monique. I’m a AA woman and I shave my legs also I don’t know about any one else but the hairs on my leg are straight. I’m not being saracastic but I thought all women grew straight hair on the legs and if they have it on their arms it’s straight too. (this is to the person who mentioned curly leg hairs). I will say I’ve seen men with curly leg hair though.
could also be Sherry Shepherd “fabulous life” her other show airs on Lifetime and she’s also in precious
Puh-leeze. I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest where many women don’t feel pressured to shave their legs, many do shave, but just as many don’t feel like following sheep to feel good about themselves. Who cares. Some of us from up north have been known dye our pit hair Easter shades as an eff you.
I have been shaving my legs since I moved to southern cal, mostly because it is hot most of the time and I wear less clothing.
Not all women feel like kowtowing to rules made by the fashion industry/entertainment.
the hairier the better. nothing like a little friction to get the heat going.
A lot of black girls in my high school did not shave. I asked one why and she gave a religious reason. I didn’t get it.
I’m black and it’s true. It is common for black women to not shave. But a lot of black women DO shave. I have shaved my legs for almost 30 years and I can remember a time when I was ridiculed BY MY ‘SISTAHS’ because they mistakenly thought that was strictly for white girls. I always thought that line of thinking was ignorant.
Monique! Obvious!!
obviously not mo’nique since it doesnt say solved!!
How is it that women now have to shave armpits, legs and private area? I’m fine with the first two but think the last is gross.
