BlindGossip – This TV-turned-movie actor is almost phobic about germs. Whenever he stays in a hotel when traveling for a shoot, the first thing he does in his room is spray or wipe down every surface with disinfectant. He also insists that the hotel provide him with brand new bed linens and a brand new remote control for the television. Another one of his quirks is to subtly pull the sleeve of his shirt or jacket over his hand whenever he has to open a door with a doorknob. If the door opens with some kind of lever or bar, he uses his wrist or his elbow.
That’s not quirky, that’s smart
I completely agree. Especially if you are on a tight shooting schedule.
Ha! Our bathroom at work is so gross. After I wash my hands I use my elbow to get more paper towel length from the dispenser and I use that to hold the key and simulataneously open the first door. Then I use the paper to unlock the second door and open the door. Then use the key to lock the second door behind me, ask instructed by mgmt.. no customers allowed. I then use the paper to open the third door knob. I refuse to touch any of these handles/knobs. I’m sure I get “the look” from coworkers whilst walking back to work with the key wrapped in paper towels. Whatev.
I would like to reply to myself…You’ve taken an entire college course in microbiology and you know for a fact that 95% of the “germs” out there will not harm you in any way shape or form and yet you insist on doing this. *sigh*
eleian, you are awesome!
OCD and MPD…cool!
i do that too. the people i see use the bathroom have poor hygiene habits…still awake
this one made me think of howie mandel, not sure if he’s considered an actor though
Um, I do the sleeve thing! Is it really that weird?
I do the same thing, always have. Now I feel like a weirdo. For the sake of guessing I’ll say Mike Meyers(did I spell that right?).
I never considered myself a germaphobe, but after several serious illnesses I’ve become one. I do some of the same things this actor does, in fact, the remote control thing is something I may do in the future. As for demanding new sheets, one could always carry their own with them and I am sure many people do. Some people do go way over the top with this stuff, but these seem smart and easy to do. Couldn’t even venture a guess as to who this is, it doesn’t really matter to me.
Totally agree with everyone else!! Whomever it is, I think is pretty smart. I constantly wipe down the handles to shopping carts whenever I shop….they gross me out!!
I agree. This person is TOTALLY sane.
There’s enough semen on the average hotel bedspread to help create another fully-fledged human, probably.
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Reminds me of Patrick Warburton on Seinfeld so I’ll guess him
And people thought I was nuts because I covered the shopping cart handle and carried a potty chair in the back of my SUV. (I wouldn’t let me kids use a public restroom). Then my oldest ended up w/ Mono at 4 years of age which is rare. You wouldn’t believe how many people don’t wash their hands, come to work sick, etc. Hopefully more people could aquire these “quirks.”
Sorry about the typo, I meant “my” kids. Listening to some Cockney-English person on the radio.
I can’t stand it when people come to work sick! UGH! I don’t want that S*
I can’t stand it when people dump their kids in school even when they’re sick, because I’m the chump who ends up with their lurgy!
Mike Rowe does the same thing and even showed it on Dirty Jobs. We’ve all seen the TV specials on hotel rooms. Can you blame them?
I’m the reason those hotels end up in that condition! hahahaah =D
I don’t care who it is. They’re wise to worry about germs in a hotel room. People can be pigs. Nose pickers and flickers, semen squirters, people who don’t wash their hands after going to the bathroom. I feel sick just thinking about it.
Finally, a celebrity who uses his brain! I bet you won’t hear about this guy in any scandals with germy women either!
Since when is Blind Gossip a forum for people with germ phobia? Take a guess!
Come on, like the actor in question is staying in 1 star motels…
Even 5-star hotels are infested with celebutard/rock star/athlete bodily fluids. I’d be germaphobic, too, if I found out that Paris Hilton, R. Kelly, or Lindsay Lohan had previously stayed in my hotel.
That being said, I think it’s Bradley Cooper. Renee Zellweger is a known germaphobe. So, who knows if Bradley acquired her quirks, or is doing this for her.
Well Im with you guys on this! I do a lot of the same things! I work at a univsersity and the semester is getting ready to start. That means people from all around the country and the world will be coming here and bringing their germs with them. (everyone typically gets sick) I disinfectant wipe to the copier and door knobs and study tables once a week or if I see someone coughing/acting sick. I think its funny posters dont seem to care who this actor because they agree with his actions!
Matthew Perry?
I second Matthew Perry. His friends character, Chandler, seemed quirky and a bit high maintenance. I carry handi whips and use them everywhere.
Smart….
Funny, I thought the same thing as everyone else. If I were the actor in this blind item I would proudly proclaim it was me. My 3 year-old knows not to touch the doorknob in a public restroom.
Howie Mandel is a well-known hotel germ-phobic, but is not the subject of this BI.
I was at at a hotel most of this week. When I travel, I always bring my trusty spray bottle of 91% Isopropyl alcohol and alcohol wipes for the remote control and telephone.
Ryan Reynolds strikes me as slightly neurotic
Don’t forget we carry good germs too and a lot of desinfectants kills them as well! Also your immune system needs to build up, otherwise that’s how you get sick! Just wash your hands!
I remember watching tv the other night and someone mentioned he asked for a new television remote to be brought to his room when he checked in…the tv show host laughed and they all thought it was silly, but then everyone started thinking about it and realized it was actually pretty smart…I just don’t remember who it was that said it…
Kevin James
Actually using too much sanitizer and disinfectant can cause your immune system to weaken. Your body will no longer recognize certain germs and be unable to fight them off, causing you to get sick more often. Most of the stuff is gross – I agree. It’s healthy to have your body fight infections (if you are a healthy person). Wash hands in hot water with regular soap. -I in no way mean to roll around naked on a hotel bedspread or lick the telephone receiver, but this person seems to have more than just a concern for health….
Maybe Clooney?
I totally agree with both. First, I think people need to stop worrying so much about that sort of germ. What I get off a doorknob, in regular doses throughout the day, prepares my body to fight off what’s on doorknobs. Obviously, I don’t go overboard, but worrying about it too much is ridiculous. Secondly, I think Clooney.
You people are freaks.
I’m going to go ahead and out myself, BG. This blind is about me.
Will Ferrell
This could be anyone nowadays. Whoever this is they aren’t a freak they are smart! Hotels are creepy, you don’t know who’s been in there and what they have. I have to admit I do the covering the doorknob thing cuz I don’t want other people’s cooties either! I’ll guess either Brad Pitt, he started out in TV on that nighttime soap Dallas and has said in interviews that he even brings his own new toilet seat to the hotels and makes them install it. Or Johnny Depp, he started on TV on 21 Jump Street and I’ve seen him in action.
georges clooney?
Its that Boston Lgl/Sec’y jerk, but now that hes got a kid everyone thinks hes being such a concerned father – yeah, he really wins a prize, just not that one. His germ phobia earned him a pranking from Capt Kirk on the show set. And he was on the Today show asking Kathy Lee to swap places with Hoda b/c KL was sick and he’s phobic about germs; he also fled a drs office b/c another patient in there had the flu and was caught outside by theGeniusMachine cameras talking about computer though he says hes technophobic as well.
I actually have a guess, but I just have to put my 2 cents in – in a hotel room, just put the remote control in a plastic bag, or baggie, and push the buttons through that (I don’t think the hotel is going to fetch you a “brand new” remote, though they’ll humour you by bringing “a” remote. And the sheets are fine, people, though just folding back the bedspread which seldom gets washed is a good idea if you’re squicked out…my guess, too, is Mike Meyers.
That’s why I stay at the hotels that use heavier sheets for coverlets now…like the Marriott brands. I try to stay away from any hotel that has a bedspread, and I always take along flip-flops to wear in hotel rooms. But I’m not freaked out by getting germs, just grossed out by the potential for bodily fluids having touched the spread and floor.
10 points to anonymous for nice use of the word “squicked”.
Come people, take a guess!!! I’m going with Ryan Reynolds.
After watching the Dateline or whatever show that had a hidden camera at various FIVE STAR hotels (like the Ritz Carlton), I would be real careful. The maids did not replace glasses but wiped them with a dirty towel stuff like that. Every bedspread showed semen under the blue light. It’s not insane these days to be proactive against getting sick. Even the common cold, while not a big deal, sucks butt for several days. Why risk it? Of course, walking around in a haz/mat suit would be a bit extreme….
I stay in hotels three or four nights a week and travel with small baggies of Comet. First thing, when checking into a room I scrub the tub, sink, counter, toilet and bathroom floor. The maids wipe down surfaces, they rarely clean.
In seven years of doing this, it’s become habit and I haven’t gotten any foot infections, which I used to get before.
While I agree using too much anti-germ stuff can be harmful, cleaning the bathroom is different.
Steve Carell?
I think it’s Johnny Depp. They keep mentioning how “quirky” his behavior is, and that’s pretty much how people describe him as, when they’re not calling him hot or talented. Also, I think I saw him talking about germs on Letterman or some other late night show awhile back.
You need to be exposed to germs in order to build your resistance to them. Where I used to work the kids that got sick often were those who lived in practically sterile houses. I’m not saying live like a pig, but you need some germs in your life!!
Anyway, I guess Brendan Fraser.
howie mandel
Jamie Fox?
