[Blind Gossip] During a hearing in Congress today on sexual harassment, Jackie Speier (a Democrat from California) dropped a bombshell allegation.
Speier says that two active members of Congress are known to be sexual harassers.
In fact, there are two members of Congress, Republican and Democrat, right now who serve, who have been subject to review or have not been subject to review, but have engaged in sexual harassment.
Representative Speier said that victims had “their private parts grabbed on the House floor” and that another colleague had been “exposing their genitals.”
All [our employees] ask is to be able to work in a hostile-free work environment. They want the system fixed and the perpetrators held accountable.
Representative Barbara Comstock (a Republican from Virginia) also told the story of an unnamed representative who showed their genitals to a female staffer.
This Member asked a staffer to bring them over some materials to their residence. And the young staffer – it was a young woman – went there and was greeted by a Member in towel. It was a male, who then invited her in. At that point, he decided to expose himself. She left and then she quit her job.
Speier was purposefully vague about the gender of the offenders. However, we somehow doubt that Nancy Pelosi is flashing her hooha to her colleagues for the thrill of it.
In related news, Speier disclosed that the U.S. House of Representatives has paid $15 million to alleged victims of sexual harassment by its own members in recent years. Speier said she did not know how many members of Congress were involved. She also explained that victims had signed non-disclosure agreements, and that the one-sided investigative process does everything to protect members of Congress, but little to protect the rights of victims.
You, the taxpayer, paid to settle those claims.
