Drama at a New Television Show
BlindGossip - There’s a television series that’s being carried by a major network. Not a completely original concept, but well-written with a likeable lead. In fact, the entire project was really sold on the strength of the star of the show, for whom this is a breakthrough role. Big problem behind the scenes, though. The star has a substance-abuse problem. The show is being filmed now, and the producers are torn between wanting to get a bunch of episodes wrapped despite the star’s erratic behavior, to rewrite scenes or entire episodes without the star, or to shut everything down while the star goes to rehab. Absolute last resort: recasting the lead, a very unappealing prospect.
Balthazar Getty
Simon Baker or Jay Mohr
It doesn’t say that the show is airing, but currently filming. What about that recently announced Hilary Duff vehicle, where she’s a young lawyer?
It says “breakthrough role” so not Hilary Duff. Adrien Grenier? Zach Braff?
United States of Tara?
knight rider star? the show is a remake and it could be a breakthrough role for the lead?
could it be the guy from “the mentalist”? that show is very much like the show “psych” on usa. don’t know if that guy has any problems at all, so i am just basing this off of that one clue.
Samantha Who? I remember reading something a while back that was similar to this that the guess was Christina Applegate.
Pacey aka Joshua Jackson on Fringe??
Well, it says NBC shows so not USoT or SW?. The first show that leaped to my mind is “Chuck”… but I’m praying that I’m wrong.
It could be one of several possibilites- Simon Baker of “The Mentalist”, Tim Roth from “Lie to Me” or maybe Sarah Shahi or Damian Lewis from “Life”?
I thought about Kiefer Sutherland. Is “24″ still on?
Where does it say NBC?
It says it’s a breakthrough role for the star so it can’t be any of the suggested names in the other postings as they have already had lead roles in current or previous series. I’m going for the lead on the show Privileged (CW), Joanna Garcia. Likable, and as she’s young Hollywood why not have a substance abuse problem, don’t most of them anyway….?
definitely not “chuck.”
its not Joanna Garcia. She was on Reba forever. What about 90210?
Not a completely original concept = 90210.i know they are filming new episodes right now and the lead shanae grimes was recently seen acting like a total cokehead on a red carpet. I’ve also heard rumours of her showing up late for filming. although she was already on a canadian show 90210 could be considered breakthrough for her because not a lot of Canadian actors make it to the states.
its def the Huffster…Hill is a known user
Kate Walsh Private Practice
What about Jason O’Mara/Life on Mars? They’re in production right now, for a major network (ABC), not original (based on a BBC series) and pretty much the entire cast save O’Mara was retooled after the pilot.
The show meets the description; don’t know enough about O’Mara to judge if he’s a user or not.
On the other hand, it would be about impossible to do an episode without him in it given the premise.
It’s probably 90210. (Though… major network? Not really.)
It’s definitely not Jason O’Mara. Everything I’ve ever read about him everyone loves working with him, from co-stars to network execs.
Vincent D’Onfrio
They held back filming L&O:CI because he was supposed to be in treatment. Watch the last few “Goren” eps from last season and you can watch his descent. And his wife just had their second kid.
The show was originally pitched as a Law & Order Columbo with Vince as the lead. Now that they’ve done another co-lead (Chris Noth), and then replaced him while continuing to watch the ratings for non-Goren eps sink, they’re barely on the air (see Dick Wolf/Wolf Films/NBC Universal deal 2007 which gives USA first-run of CI then NBC).
If Vince can’t pull out of this spin, CI will be airing a finale this summer.
And CI was a breakthrough role for Vince. He stopped being a ThatGuy from films and became a name with a solid tv show.
Shenae Grimes, 90210
THE MENTALIST.
Easy.
It would be kind of hard to have a show called “The Mentalist” without the ‘mentalist.’ I’ve seen him on a lot of talk shows lately, and he seems very together…besides I love the show…IT CAN’T BE HIM..lol.
What about Rufus Sewell (sp?) For the Eleventh Hour. His show is new but not that original. He is a known actor (Dark City, A Knight’s Tale , etc) and is likable.
The Office - Steve Carrell
House.
America Ferrera - Ugly Betty
Kristine got it. Shenae, 90210
I like Shenae for this, 90210 isn’t an original concept. Also Vincent D’Onofrio is a good guess, criminal intent isn’t an original concept either, it’s in the Law and Order series. Vincent is definately the star of the show too, and would seem harder to replace than Shenae.
Though 90210 is a new show and Criminal intent has been on for years, so CI doesn’t really fit the title.
Ha ha ha… 90210 is def not a break-through show, and the writing on that show SUCKS….. my vote is for Anna Torv on Fringe.
It could be Hilary Duff.
She did lots of disney stuff, and little movies.
But I dont think she ever had a TV show yet has she?
Shes been out of the spotlight, so she definitely needs to “breakthrough”.
Shenae Grimes is a good guess too….
You didn’t know Hilary Duff had a show? She was Lizzie McGuire…that’s what made her so famous!
Maybe Eliza Dushku on the new FOX show Dollhouse?
My first guess would have been “Mentalist”. Hope Baker’s not the guy.
The “Dollhouse” guess was pretty smart, and that’d fit with the “strength of the star” and “breakthrough” part - tho ED did anchor “Tru Calling” at Fox before.
“90210″ is an ensemble-show (sort of, ensembly sucky), so nobody’s realyl a lead.
The “L&O:CI” sounds like a pretty solid guess too, but they’ve already semi-recast twice now, right?
So I’ll cast my ballot for Rufus Sewell on “Eleventh Hour”, even though the show’s performed so poorly that cancellation makes more sense than salvaging.
Nope - ready for a bombshell?
Steve Carrell
The Office
uh huh. That’s what she said.
Well this prospect is not very appealing to me, but what about Amy Poehler and her as-yet-untitled show from the producers of The Office? Big network = NBC, not completely original = same documentary style as The Office. The show was definitely sold on the fact that Amy would be starring and it could be considered a breakthrough role since it’s her first show after SNL.
Not sure if it’s filming yet, though.
I think its H. Duff…this is her “breakthrough role” as an adult actress…everything she has done has been for tweens. It also says a major network so the CW doesn’t count cuz that s* is the crack baby spawn of the WB and her black abusive lover UPN.
Hilary Duff, It would be her first adult role to play a lawyer!
what about John Mayer? His variety show is nothing new and this would definitely be a breakthrough… dunno about the ‘well-liked’ part tho =P
That disgusting chick with the huge anorexic knees on 90210.
I really hope this isn’t Vincent. Although hes been seen acting weird on TV its because his character went nuts. USA is not a major network…
At the same time, USA announced the new season would air in nov 08, and i would check the usa website, since tihs is my favorite show, and now they are supposed to air in January. If this were Vincent, I would be so sad.
True Blood?? Ana Paquin seems to fit some of this
