MavrixOnline – We’re talking about the ensemble cast of a cable drama series, a series that the network loved right away. It was picked up for a second season, but it doesn’t look like Season 2 will ever be shown (despite already having been written). Why? Because of some BS with the production company.
So, it looks like the 12 episodes are all anyone is going to get (for now, at least). And those 12 episodes have run at least 300 times in the US, not to mention the handful of other countries that are currently running the series. With all of those episodes running all over the place, you’d think that the stars, writers and director would be swimming in royalty checks. Sadly, that isn’t the case. As a result, at least one of the major stars of the show is having his house foreclosed on.
The guy(s) in question had to rely on family and friends (of Dorothy?) to help them through troubling times.
SOLVED!
Sordid Lives: The Series, Jason Dottley and Del Shores
Congrats to Steven and Lou for being the first with correct guesses! Thanks to Sam and PK for filling in the details!
From MavrixOnline:
Well, it looks like my first blind item was a success — we got more comments on that post than any other in the history of MavrixOnline, and Blind Gossip picked up the story! Guess we’ll keep ‘em coming, huh?
As most of you guessed, the series in question is Sordid Lives: The Series. The couple affected by the shady dealings of the production company (Once Upon A Time Films) are none other than Jason Dottley and Del Shores, two very talented (and, ahem, good looking) people who deserve to have millions in the bank…so, what’s up, LOGO? How’re you going to let my boys go broke like that? One of my favorite comments came from a guy named Thom, who called everyone to action by saying:
Listed Below Are The E-Mail Addresses For The People Responsible For Not Having Another Season Of “SORDID LIVES THE SERIES” Please Send E-Mails To The Following People Telling Them How You Feel About “Sordid Lives The Series” —And Let Them Know That You Will Be Canceling LOGO If They Don’t Air Season Two Of Sordid! lisa.sherman@logostaff.com The General Manager Brian.Graden@mtvstaff.com The President Of MTV/LOGO The Following E-Mail Address Is The PRODUCER Who Is NOT Paying ANYONE Residuals! Please E-Mail Him And Let Him Know Exactly What You Think Of Him And The Way He Is Treating The Entire Cast And Writer/Director Of “SORDID”! His Name is Stan! stanouat@aol.com
So, there you have it. But don’t fret too much, Sordid fans: I have it on good authority that Del Shores is taking his show on the road, and is selling out places left and right! And of course, Jason Dottley isn’t one to let something as trivial as a major TV network get him down: he’s using his time off to jump start his singing career! Jason’s got a new single out, called Hit Play (Take Me Away). It’s getting major play everywhere (I’ll stay classy and refrain from making a dirty comment), and you can check it (and him) out for yourself — he’ll be performing at the Bar on Church in San Francisco this weekend. If you’re not near the gay bay, you can hear the song at Jason’s website. Love it!
This is a travesty to any Hollywood Dream. As Simon Cowell negotiates for 40 million a year, this is happening under our noses….”Somebody stop the Insanity”
Fringe, but only bc they play re-runs every week
Fringe is not a cable drama.
How isn’t it? It’s on cable and its dramatic.
Lol…just because you have cable, doesn’t make every channel a cable channel.
It’s on Fox
It is BS – Logo says they want to go ahead (a least that was what the told me yesterday when I asked)… My question is what kind of hammer is there to use on the production company? There was apparently a deal that said the series only goes forward if all three parties agree – the production company is the hold out. Rumor also has it that Logo is withholding payment to the actors despite contractual obligations to pay and the revenue to do so.
Friend of Dorothy is a reference to gay people.
It was also used during the tv show Arrested Development by David Cross, who played Tobias Funke….
This is so sad. It’s sordid lives and its jason dottley and creator del shores. i’m heartbroken. i’ve already written to logo and cancelled THEM!
Both above comments are wrong because it indicates CABLE, i.e. USA, Sy Fy, et. al.
Fringe has 2O episodes on its first season,
It’s outrageous that LOGO can’t fix this problem with the producers of Sordid Lives. This is the best comedy to come along in years. It brought lots of new viewers — both gay and straight — to LOGO. Shame on them for not stepping up to the plate. Del Shores and Sordid Lives are apparently too good for LOGO…hopefully, they will land somewhere else.
LOGO is notoriously cheap, and they continually tell all their produced talent to cut costs on their shows. They then ‘invested’ money is some other show to keep it on the air…Sarah Silverman. Everyone was like, “OH, so NOW Logo has money?” LOGO is a disgrace as a network and it’s a disgrace that they low ball all their talent when they are being bankrolled by MTV.
MTV is notoriously cheap too from what I hear. I’m in TV and several of my industry friends have done freelance work for MTV and they have done anything and everything NOT to pay my friends. Both channels need to loosen the purse strings.
It is the series on LOGO called Sordid Lives. Very funny.
Sordid Lives The Series sucks. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t renewed? And the actor spent money he didn’t have? Why is that anyone else’s fault?
DM, you s*! I’m a straight woman whose eyes were opened by this show. It’s funny, it’s touching and I am so sad that it will be gone. Del Shores crosses over to me and all my friends and none of us are gay. I can’t wait for him to land somewhere where he is appreciated.
being PC does not make it funny. it was not.
“Trust Me” just got cancelled. One of the principals was on “Will & Grace,” hence the friend of Dorothy.
good one.
Fox isn’t cable. It’s over the air. Maybe United States of Tara?
It’s Trust Me. Did reasonably well in the ratings, but the network-production company demands / politics killed it. The actor in question is Tom Cavanaugh. The reason why there are no residuals, is because it was an AFTRA production, not SAG.
I Know These People So All I Will Say Is That This Is Very SORDID!
“Trust me”. If you don’t count the pilot, there were 12 episodes and the lead was played by Eric McCormack who was “Will” in Will & Grace
Yeah, but they’re talking about an ensemble drama and “Trust Me” was more about the two leads …
Sordid Lives: The Series. The series creator, Del Shores, and his husband, Jason Dottley (who also stars on the series) had their home recently foreclosed because the actors and writers were never paid residuals for their appearances. The show also stars Leslie Jordan from Will & Grace (Karen’s arch-nemesis).
Oh heartbroken, I just started getting into Trust Me on iTunes, I didn’t know it was cancelled!
correct me if im wrong but i think its the new 90210: dorothy=kansas=the wilson family is from kansas
Everybody knows you get paid f* all for the first season, especially cable.

Though the above article only mentions it’s been repeated about 260 times, not 300 as in the BI…
