I am not 100% about it being Jessica Simpson. By her wanting to do country, which is generally less commerical, it doesn’t seem she is as focused in being a pop star. It could be Beyonce with the weight and I hear the tour isn’t great but then again Single Ladies was a hit.

I think Janet is the best guess. Didn’t I hear somewhere that she was the ONLY person keeping most of her family out of debt? And her tour died without so much as a whimper. Not even the gays seem to care these days. And people tend to judge the Jacksons very harshly. When people see the name “Jackson” connected to music, they automatically think “epic”. And when it isn’t, the negative press can get very harsh. And, anyway. Didn’t her long time boyfriend/might-as-well-be-husband do her last two records? And they sold really really badly?

good guess on Christina, I wondered about her too, and wondered if her hubby has a hand in her production in any way. That would make more sense because she really was truly famous, for talent, whereas Jessica was T&A and stupidity. And the problem is that Christina is just not a very warm, likeable person…there is something off-putting about her, so I can see her having longevity problems.
It can’t be Janet…a couple years ago she wasn’t the most popular. A couple years ago she was reeling from a flop album (which didn’t flop as badly as her most recent). She hasn’t even had a real hit since before the Super Bowl incident however long ago that was now.

I’m surprised that nobody guessed Britney for this one. Circus was supposed to be her “comeback” album after the MTV fiasco, Perez had an article the other day about how much she spends because of the conservatorship and she is on tour.
It could be Beyonce but the money part doesn’t fit: she’s the richest star under 30. Christina is not on tour.
It can’t be Britney…this is her most successful album era in years.
I just really can’t see this being Jessica Simpson. She never was “one of the most popular acts in the business”. “A couple of years ago” she had her album “A public Affair”. It topped at #5 in the US, and everywhere else it was below the top 20s. Then she released her country album, and hes #1 on country charts AND #4 on pop charts! That is *NOT* a down slide, that is moving UP!! Come on people.
Jessica Simpson has never been one of the ‘most popular’, neither has Christina (although much more loved than Jess) and Boncy – while being successful, doesn’t fall into that category either. Tropical hit the nail on the head given the the latest ‘scoops’ about BritBrit – she is trapped into doing what her overpaid father wants her to do just so she doesn’t loose contact with her kids.
My initial thought was actually Ceiline Dion, as her husband was/is her long-time manager and was the one who made her a star. If he is still her manager, this would be a reason why she would be reluctant to sack him. She just finished a world tour, which may not have been as sold out as they said.
BUT – the Brit Brit guess is a brilliant one.
Although he made her popular, I don’t think that Larry Randolph is to be trusted; his jailbait marketing strategy and gruelling regime when she was young probably contributed to her mental issues.
