These captions are mostly used to throw people off. But how does one briefly disappear over the weekend. I can see disappearing for a few hours; disappearing over the weekend would mean they couldn’t find you for a couple of days. If it’s RDJ I hope at least his wife knew where he was. One last thing; she was not with him at the Oscars this year, he was flying solo. So this could have given him a little free time to do whatever or whomever. Also the day before the Oscars they had rehearsal, so maybe the blind is saying that they couldn’t find him when it was the cast of The Avengers time to rehearse. But maybe he just went out for an In & Out Burger. I heard they were that good. LOL

Hmm. The recovering drug addict that’s foremost in my mind is Robert Downey, Jr. He presented at the oscars, so he was on the radar, and he’s been doing so publicly well and has so much at stake with his movie franchise that if he went off the rails it would be — REALLY BAD. So, my guess is Robert Downey, Jr. Please tell me he was found … with a negative tox screen …?!

The only person that would send people into a panic on Oscar weekend by disappearing would be Seth MacFarland, the host. He’s rich as hell. Is he a drug user? If he is, that’s surprising. Can’t really think of anyone else who would really MATTER for that particular event.
I like your logic here. But I don’t think SMcF does or has done any hard drugs. He gave up pot… but to me that doesn’t qualify as a recovering drug addict.
Maybe it was RDJ because someone said he presented, so maybe if they couldn’t find him, it throw the show’s producers into a panic?

The key word is “recovering” as opposed to “recovered”. I would consider Robert Downey, Jr. as being “recovered” (I’m being an optimist, so shoot me). If I had to pick someone who is still “recovering”, the first person that comes to mind is Nick Stahl, closely followed by Charlie Sheen.
Addicts are never fully recovered; they are always considered “recovering.”
But I know what you mean. If someone was an addict for 5 years and was clean for 20, I’d consider them recovered. However, in the world of rehab and AA and all that, they are forever considered “recoverING.”
I’m not 100% sure, but I think they never consider themselves “recovered” and always say “recovering”. At least, my friend who I used to know about 15 years ago told me that, and she used to go to AA. Maybe I misunderstood, though. Anyone know for sure?
I get what you’re saying, but there is no such thing as a recovered – past tense – addict of anything. The way addiction works is that you’re always in recovery every day in the present tense. So I get your logic, but I don’t think that’s what they’re going for here.

They are always ‘recovering’, they are never really recovered, more’s the pity. It’s a lifelong thing and there will be relapses.

But what do they consider disappearing? If it was RDJ it should say that his wife was looking for him. Just because I leave my job sometimes and not all my coworkers know where I am it doesn’t mean I disappeared.

Nah, Charlie has said recovery is a joke and he won’t live his life by rules. But I think he’s cleaned up and is doing much better professionally and personally. He also never fessed up to ever being an addict, in fact didn’t he say he never was? He was! But he lives on “de” river Nile.
Demi Moore. She didn’t co-host the Oscar party with Madonna…Was out of the country apparently but her not hosting that party is a big deal. No one said she had to attend the Oscars but yes that party is more exclusive and is as much of a ritual every year as the Vanity Fair Party.
