  • Fucking Argo makes me furious just thinking about it. If it wins Best Picture, I will be well and properly done with the Oscars.

I voted as what I thought would win but I would love to see Quvenzhané Wallis or win for Best Actress, Denzel Washington or Hugh Jackman for Best Actor, An Lee on Life of Pi for Best Director, and Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, or Beasts of the Southern Wild for Best Picture.

    • Marjorie Stewart-Baxter

I thought Argo was good– BUT I had to watch it twice to appreciate it. However, it was NO WHERE NEAR as wonderful as Django Unchained. I think that deserves a win. I only got to watch 3 of the best pic nominees: Argo, Django, Silver Linings Playbook (didn’t think SLP needed to be nominated for Best Pic, IMHO) I would’ve loved to see Beasts– maybe I’ll squeeze it in before Sunday… Also wish I would’ve seen Lincoln.

Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor!! (For Django Unchained). That’s the big one for me this year.

I picked movies I thought would win, not which I thought should. Let me just say that I HATE Le Miz, and I’m a bit of a snob. Purely political reasons for why this is nominated. I think they decide ahead of time by who is involved in these projects which to nominate. There is an Orwellian quality to this process. They start telling us which movies are magnificent, and folks buy in. Who is even liking these films like Le Miz, really, other than industry types who pick them apart for narcissistically artistic elements? Last year they really got it right with Bridesmaids. But that was because it lucked up and caught the wave. The Hangover should have won big. It was brilliant. So many films get looked over because of hard-ons some have against their players. I hope Le Miz wins nothing but sound editing. Musicals ought to be separate, anyway. That is singing, not acting, where Jennifer Hudsons win for singing really well. I like her, but stuff like that is bull.

The FIX is IN ;) (I don’t care what they say).

I think your calculator is a bit up the creek BG, it was showing 2,231 total votes for the Best Picture category but adding up the individual votes for each picture gives you 3931.

Ooops the above comment wasn’t meant to be a reply to Up the Coast but I do agree, the nominations are usually pretty right but after that it’s a popularity contest rather than a true refection of ‘the best’.

Multiple votes allowed for Best Picture. Love, Ace

They really need to scale it back to 5 featured films. Too damn many. The list requires some unworthy films to get listed. I mean Django Unchained? Seriously? If 5 noms is good enough for the other categories, it is good enough for best film.
