Heavy Metal Star Honors A Fan

heavy-metalCDAN – What surprisingly prolific heavy metal artist/television host and reality star (we Americans only know one song, really and one very famous cover photo) rearranged his schedule to attend the wake of a 24 year-old fan, because he heard that the deceased’s wish was to have him play at his funeral? He played the piano in the corner for over four hours, shook everyone’s hand, and mourned with everyone as though they’d known each other for years.

Ha! this is Andrew WK. Party Hard!

  • Rafael

Bret Michaels? Wait, Wiki doesn’t say he plays the piano. Oh well. I’ll still guess him!

  • Jane Doe

It’s definitely Brett Michaels. If you watched Rock of Love this past week, it shows how he found out that a big fan or his, a 24 yo who was killed in Iraq. They met when Brett was touring for the soldiers in Iraq.

  • Kate

    dunno, but i love him.

  • Marie

But what Poison song does anyone know? I know tons but there’s not like one really famous one. And what cover was he on? I don’t think it’s him, sounds British!

  • sunshine

    the darkness fella??

  • Sundaeg1rl

I just read this story on some other gossip place (one of the ones up the side, can’t remember which). Everyone seems to think it’s Andrew WK – I mean, he was a rocking one-hit wonder with a controversial cover (blood pouring out of his nose). And apparently he’s a whizz at the piano. In fact, I’m pretty sure that someone confirmed this. I wish i could remember which site it was on!

  • Tee

Only Bret would do that and go to that extreme.

Aww I have seen a few of the tv things Andrew Wk has done and he seems like a really nice guy so he’s my guess too. Bret? I think he’s too busy with the lame women who give it up to him .. eeww

bret’s famous poison song is ‘every rose has a thorn’ marie. its kinda super famous.

  • Crazy Train

sounds like Bret Michaels to me

I don’t know…but what a wonderful giving thing he did. It’s nice to read this type of item rather than a who’s cheating on whom, or what some dumb celebu-twit has done now.

  • Stacked

Don’t know who it is, but this is a great story…should this act of kindness nice be filed under blind items? I think not!

  • Stacked

Forgive my typo…I meant “act of kindness.”

Who’s Andrew WK? I feel like such an out of touch person for having to ask.

Also the only Poison song that comes to my mind when I hear “Poison” is Every Rose.

I didn’t know who Andrew WK *was* either

“On Friday, December 5th 2008, a die hard Andrew W.K. fan named Dominic Owen Mallary passed away after an accident while his band Last Lights performed at Boston University. Dominic had always said his dying wish was to have Andrew W.K. blasted at his wake. Catching wind of this, Andrew came to the wake, and played classical piano for the entire time after paying his respects.”

This is on Andrew W.K.’s Wikipedia page. There’s no ‘verified source’, but a search for “Dominic Mallary” brings up a few references to his death and final wish.

I’ve never heard of him before, but Kudos to the man for doing such a kind-hearted act. It’s nice to see a BI of someone doing something like this.

  • Jane Doe

Don’t know who Andrew WK is, but if you watched last week’s Rock of Love with Brett Michaels, this is not blind whatsoever. And no, I am not feeling bad about this guilty pleasure of mine. Those trainwreck girls are fun to watch!

  • kells

it could be bret michaels… but i don’t think it is because there are definitely MULTIPLE poison songs that are super popular (you probably know them, you just don’t know it is poison).

I love the Andrew WK guess. he is a little off-the-wall but he is a good person and has done a lot of kind-hearted things that most rock stars would never consider. Andrew WK rocks pretty damn hard, he is awesome.

  • Anony

What about Dee Snyder? He seems to be a really nice guy, and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” is the only song I can think of, unless you count their Christmas album (A Very Twisted Christmas…it’s surprisingly awesome).

Initially thought Brett due to the one hit thing and really bad reality show – oh , how you let us metal-heads down Brett, then re-read the blind. Seems it could be Andrew WK (if he has a reality show too), he is more famous in Europe than US, so the one hit might fit and he loves to party with his fans (have been in a bars in London when he’s turned up a couple of times- all good, clean fun – honest) but has a hidden side too – maybe the piano side. The memorable cover is from ‘Party Hard’

  • Finally, a BI where my obsessive love of ’80s hair metal comes in handy!

Dee Snyder does seem like a super-nice guy, but Twisted Sister had several U.S. hits, including “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock.” Plus there was no very memorable cover photo.

Bret Michaels? NO NO NO. Poison had a bunch of U.S. hits. “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” “Unskinny Bop,” “Something to Believe In,” “Ride the Wind,” and MORE. How dare anyone blaspheme the name of Poison by implying that they were one-hit wonders??

The Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons guesses made me die a little inside.

Anyway. It’s definitely Andrew WK. Not only does he fit the clues completely, but a couple of other sources have confirmed it.

    • ammo

Has he done a reality show, he hadn’t when was parying? Only ask coz I now live in the middle of nowhere and can’t even get a decent internet connection, let alone any decent TV.

      • He had a show on MTV2 a few years back called “Your Friend, Andrew WK.” And he did a show called “Crashing with Andrew WK” on MTV before that.

He’s been on tons of shows for MTV, MTV2, and VH1. He hosted the shows “Most Outrageous Frontman” and Warped Tour “Backstage Pass.” And he always does those “I Love the…” shows on VH1, plus “Best Week Ever.”

This sounds like Andrew W.K. – I actually met him once at ozzfest, I’m not really a fan of his music but he was seriously one of the nicest guys. He actually came up to people and asked to autograph things for them. One guy gave him a CD to autograph and he sat down with the cd booklet and just wrote page after page in it. He shook hands and talked to anyone who would talk to him. He just seemed amazingly good natured and sweet.

  • Melissa

Is Andrew WK a reality star?

  • iieee

    definitely Andrew WK.

“Andrew WK released his first album, I Get Wet, in 2002, which ended up causing quite a bit of controversy with censors as a result of the cover showing WK with a badly bloodied nose, blood dripping down his face and neck. The album was still released, but with a black sticker put on the CD shrink wraps to cover the bloody area…

In any case, the first album ended up rising to the #1 position on Billboard’s “Heatseekers” list, and has been a favorite in my collection since it was availbale on shelves.”

He was on MTV’s reality show “Meet the Barkers” in 2005

  • Kathy

It says this person is a tv host too, so I do not think it was Bret. Read the old posts people! Everyone verified it was Andrew WK even though I don’t remember him being on a reality show…but he did appear on “D List” with Kathy Griffin
