This was probably agreed to by both to force James to put in the work required to be a success. I think Paul and Linda raised all their kids to be self-sufficient and pay their own way.

Fiction Plane was the opening band for all of the dates on the Police reunion tour in 2007, so perhaps after that huge financial shot in the arm, Daddy Sting told Junior that Fiction Plane needs to be able to make it on their own?

If you are basing the “cut off” comment on the passing of the basket, I would have my doubts. James McCartney might simply be trying to distance himself from his dad in terms of his career. I doubt very much that Paul would cut his beloved only son off. Doesn’t seem at all like his style. James is actually very talented. He does need to lose some weight. It must be hard to be Paul’s son in terms of striking out on your own. On another note: I vote for Rod Stewart, anyway.

Weird, my comment didn’t get posted. I didn’t say anything unreasonable in it. It’s Mick Jagger, son Jimmy Jagger, band Turbogeist. It’s not really much of a blind, because the UK gossip rags reported that Mick doesn’t like the band, plus, one of the guys in the band said they sold nitrous oxide to support the band. Check it out.
Lots of good possibilities so far, and since most of the sons in these guesses are well over 30 years old, I say good for dad. One day they’ll probably get an inheritance, until then… make your own living!!!

The picture immediately made me think of Roger Daltrey and “Tommy,” but it seems that none of his kids is a musician. I’m changing my guess to Rod Stewart.
Sir Paul raised his kids to be a certain way (respectful, hardworking, etc. See the NY Times article from last week on Stella), and I don’t think he would want any of his kids to be seen as a sponging, rich kid type, but that being said, I don’t think he would suddenly “cut off” any of his kids maliciously, as long as they were working towards a goal and staying out of trouble.

Ironically, the son’s famous dad probably makes it very hard for the son to be very successful at collecting any money for the band. People probably see him passing the hat and say, “What? He’s a rich kid. Let him hit Pops up for some dough, and I’ll keep my own hard-earned money.”

I don´t think it is McCartney. There were just pictures of him holidaying with his family including James, and there are articles about how he was the bestman at his wedding and how close they were when Linda died, i.e. living in the same house.
