[BlindGossip] This music guy is in big trouble. Although he has had an impressive number of hits over the past 10+ years, he never got the hang of managing his money. He is now so broke that he is turning to his famous ex for a handout.
Unfortunately, she’s not exactly jumping up to help him. She’s been down this road with him before, she knows that they don’t belong together, and she’s not going to spend another penny of her own millions to bail him out of trouble again.

Jermaine was the producer behind Destiny Child’s first album, and has worked with everyone from Kriss Kross (“Jump” was one of your hints) to Mariah (“We Belong Together” was another one of your hints).
He dated Janet Jackson on-and-off, from August 2001 to March 2009. Dupri has two children, one with ex-girlfriend Pam Sweat, and the other by a stripper, which led to Dupri’s breakup with Janet Jackson.
Jermaine has had money problems for years. Janet bailed him out for a long time, but since the stripper incident. We don’t know who bailed him out this time around. He’s finally cut down on the huge entourage, but not before he ran into a multitude of tax problems, watched his restaurant go belly up, and faced foreclosure twice in two years. Oh, and if you need a DJ for your wedding or bar mitzvah, you can now get Jermaine Dupri to spin at your event for the bargain price of $10k. Jermaine Dupri Barely Rescues Mansion From Foreclosure
Jermaine Dupri’s giant Atlanta home is safe … for now — because the music producer successfully rescued the place from foreclosure auction this week, after allegedly failing to pay $193,000 in mortgage debt.
Dupri’s home was scheduled for auction September 4th — after Dupri’s bank claimed the rapper failed missed $193,404 in payments on his mortgage.
Dupri filed an emergency motion in response, asking the court to block the auction, claiming he only owed $89,901 … and he paid the bill in full by the time he filed the motion.
The house was yanked from the auction at the last minute.
Dupri’s lawyer, James Kane, tells TMZ, “There was no foreclosure sale of the property … We are presently working with the lender to reconcile our disagreement over the [mortgage amount due].”

I would agree that the guy in question isn’t necessarily a musician (it could be a producer, song-writer etc), but Tommy’s career doesn’t fit the time frame. His biggest success was in the 80′s & 90′s, and he left Sony almost 10 years ago. It seems unlikely for him to blow that much money and then crawl back to an ex-wife from 2 decades ago.
She was absolutely miserable in the marriage. Why would she help him out now?

Also, “not exactly jumping up to help him” seems awkwardly worded, so I’m guessing that “jumping” is another clue. Mariah worked with Jump Smokers, so that would fit.

Agree. Dupre wrote and produced “We Belong Together” which is one of the biggest songs of all time. I think that’s what that line is in relation to and is just a red herring illuding to Tommy and Mariah.

The only person that comes to mind is Billy Joel. He has had previous financial problems but his big hits came more than 10 years ago.
He came to mind when I read the title and the blind hadn’t even popped up. He just divorced (again), has a problem drinking (I believe?) and Christie Brinkley is famous as well — and has enough bad luck with her OTHER exes to say HELLS NO to bailing out Billy Joel. “Music Man” reminds me of “Piano Man” without being too obvious.
I don’t think Billy Joel’s number of hits over the past ten yeras is particularly “impressive”. His peak time was the late 70s to early 90s.

Making an impressive number of hits doesn’t have to mean that HE made hits…could it mean that people he signed made a lot of hits? Because he signed a lot of people like Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez…and on Wikipedia they list 9 “hits” (10 if you split Hall & Oates into two).

I don’t think it’s Tommy Mattola because he’s still a music executive and likely has a steady flow of cash. Plus his current wife, Thalia, is still active in the Latin music scene. Mariah Carey, his ex-wife, famously hates him; he’d have to be very down on his luck (maybe sleeping in the back of his big red Cadillac, oh my honey) for him to approach her for help.

I totally agree with the Jermain Dupri/Janet Jackson guess. He’s been in the news lately for his money issues and I haven’t heard of any projects he’s got going on that have charted.
The Tommy Mattola/Mariah guess doesn’t make sense; he’s still a big time music exec and their divorce was anything but amicable. I can’t imagine Mimi helping him at all.

There’s no way it could be Tommy Mottola. He basically tried to destroy Mariah’s career when they split – via badmouthing her all over town. It almost drove her to a mental hospital, etc. There is NO WAY Tommy could be so deluded as to even THINK OF ASKING her to help him. No way. It’s not a question of Mariah dissing Tommy, it’s a question of I doubt the kind of person who tried TO DESTROY another person would then ask that same person for help. Does not make sense to me.

Dupri sounds like a good guess from all the clues commented on, but “impressive number of hits”? I couldn’t name a single song he was involved with if you paid me. I’m still not sure if he’s a producer or a performer or both. I just know him from the Janet connection.
I must have been Christmas shopping when this blind came out, ’cause it had JD all over it. It’s not that he didn’t have the money; he just spent it recklessly on cars and women, making it rain in stripclubs. If you watch some of his older videos, they are about nothing but spending money on women. If he got Janet,he didn’t need to do this as much as he thought. I hope he sits his little azz down away from the strip clubs, gets some therapy for that insecurity and spending problem, and begins to live within his means. He’ll be OK.
