CDAN – Going back to the 90′s for this one and one of my favorite movies. Anyway, back when this movie was shot, this current A+ list female always movies actress still had to audition. So, she did for this comedy but did not get the role. Why? In a very, very brief audition our actress broke down three times crying and screaming. The producers called her “bat s**t crazy.” So, instead the role went to an unknown who was deemed by the producers as “dumber than a box of rocks,” but has worked her way up to a B+ lister who has always been in movies. Oh, and some videos.

Yes, Cameron Diaz did a very seedy S&M Photo shoot in the 90s that was also filmed, and the tape has been floating around certain movie circles for years. I’m pretty sure it’s now online if you know the right places to look in.

I’m amending my answer to guess that the A+ actress was Gwyneth Paltrow who, according to Wikipedia, broke up with Brad Pitt because she was “such a mess” in the mid 90s.

Also – there was that story from the Clueless set that when Cher mispronounces “Haitians” in her report – that wasn’t in the script. It was AS’s flub that they thought was so funny they kept it. I could see the producers thinking she wasn’t the brightest bulb.
I’d say Silverstone is C/D List now though. She hasn’t had a hit this decade. I’d say Diaz fits the clue better.

I think this is the best guess. Jolie was going through her wild years and interestingly has never done a comedy. Maybe that bad audition put her off! And even though Diaz had made a few films before There’s Something About Mary she was relatively unknown. She also has the reputation of not being very smart. Unlike some of the other people posting here I think she’s probably considered B+ even though she pulls in the big bucks.
I think A+ list means an Oscar winning actress – who also does great BO. There aren’t many of them. Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and I can’t think of anyone else. I wish someone would supply a link to the updated list of who’s on these A, B and C lists. Or the criteria that get them on the lists.
my issue with “something about mary” being the movie is that cameron diaz was not an unknown that this point. she was an unknown when she did “the mask”. by “sam” she had already done “the mask”, “my best friend’s wedding”, and a few others.

So far “The Mask” fits the clues the best, as Cam Diaz was totally unknown, has never done TV, and is dumber than a bag of hammers. I still want the A-lister who auditioned, that’s all.
The B+ Lister was the unknown at the point of the blind. Not the A+ Lister, it just says she still had to audition. I think Julia fits this blind.

There aren’t that many female A+ listers around. There’s basically Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts, but Roberts wouldn’t have had to audition for anything in the 90s she’d had already made it.

I feel like saying that Cate Blanchett is VERY much an A-list actress. She just doesn’t have the sort of personal life that folks gossip about, so maybe she doesn’t come to mind so easily. Course, Cate is my favorite actress…and I don’t think she has anything to do with this blind. Just commenting on what actresses are A-list these days.
Oh Blanchett is definitely A-list but this blind says A+. I always figured A+ means lots of media coverage, hype etc. Prior to Roberts marriage she was followed relentlessly and was dating/breaking up with a lot of guys. Now, it’s Jolie that the press is fixated on.
Plus, I just can’t see Blanchett having a nervous break down as described by this blind.

Heather hasn’t done any porn (although she played porn stars in Boogie Nights and The Guru). Plus she did have that short lived TV series, so I don’t think she fits.

Just a reminder everyone that this says this woman is “currently A+ list”. Not A list. When you think A +, that means in the range of people like ANGELINA JOLIE, BRAD PITT, GEORGE CLOONEY, and other SCREEN LEGENDS. Many of the women mentioned are not A+ list. And even if they were in the past they are not A+ anymore. And Alicia Silverstone * sure isn’t B+ list anymore. Her time passed long ago.

Alicia could be considered B+ list, she gets work, most recently had great reviews on Broadway, I believe.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are without a doubt A+ list, because of their name recognition and the fact that they’ve both been nominated for Oscars, Angelina even winning one. Dear.

Hmm, I liked the Clueless/Alicia idea, but IMDb claims that Alicia Silverstone did not have to audition for her role. Also, it says that the role of Cher was originally offered to Sarah Michelle Gellar but she had to turn it down due to “AMC” conflicts. SMG is SO not A-list, so that can’t be right, can it?
I don’t know if I agree with some of the guesses here. I’ve seen a few interviews with Cameron Diaz and although she is very goofy, she seems smart and articulate when she stops giggling. And Alicia Silverstone seems of average intelligence. I think that 90′s Angelina Jolie or Drew Barrymore could be good guesses because they were both wild cards back in the day. But neither could be called crazy today since both are extremely successful and wealthy. Drew especially with her being a successful producer as well.
a+ lister – some one mentioned charlize theron. she could easily be the one who had the breakdowns – there was some controversy surrounding the death of her allegedly abusive father – her mother shot him apparently – that would be enough to cause any one to breakdown randomly in audutions (or anywhere for that matter). now with a couple of oscars under her belt she is probably A+. no idea about the film or the b lister though.
