BlindGossip – On The View this morning, the women interviewed actor Gabriel Byrne of HBO’s In Treatment. He talked about the fact that he avoids watching his own performance on screen.
“But there’s one actress that I know… I wish I had her confidence. We sat through a screening of a film, and at the end of it, she slapped me on the thigh, and said ‘Can I f*cking act, or what?!’.”
Byrne wouldn’t name the woman, but he did say that it wasn’t Joan Collins.

hilarious and awesome. good for her!
i think a lot of actors who say “oh, i don’t watch myself” are full of it.
Just like the actresses who say, “I never thought I was beautiful when I was young.” That smug bs comment always makes me gag.
That is usually true. Many people have a very unflattering image of themselves, especially teenagers. Adults too. I could tell some interesting stories, but I don’t think that is necessary.
I immediately thought of Helen Mirren!!!! Love, love, love her and this sounds like something she might say!
I’m gonna go with this one, too.
Ellen Barkin….his ex wife
Yeah, seems like something she would say.
I think it sounds like her alright!!
i fourth this guess
hahhhahhaaaaaaaaa thats “boo boo”
How about Kathleen Turner
It totally sounds like something Kathleen Turner would say. She was actually a brilliant actress back in the day.
i’d like it to be shelly long in “hello again”
I like this guess I have read she is a massive egotistical B in real life
Laura Linney. Although I hope not, as I like her quite a bit. Except in her awful new tv show.
I don’t know. I could see Laura Linney saying something like this tongue-in-cheek. She seems pretty hilarious, and it sounds like it was meant to be in fun.
Right, that is what I hoped.I like her quite a bit. But she is the most talented actress he has worked with in a decade or so, looking at IMDB.
Laura Linney is really cool. She is not full of herself. She’s engaged to a hotel front desk agent. She could have said it jokingly.
Her “awful” new TV show? I love that show!
I am glad someone does. I think it wastes the considerable talents of her and Oliver Platt.
Me too, though I KEEP wishing she’d let Paul in on it! Poor guy.
I immediately thought of Susan Sarandon. I can imagine her saying something like this is partial jest. She was in a movie Autumn Hearts that Gabriel Burn was in too.
Ellen Barkin they were hot together.
He can be hot with me. LOVE that guy
He’s worked with so many actresses, but somehow I can imagine Kathleen Turner saying that.
Just some of the actresses he’s filmed with:
Kathleen Turner “Julia and Julia”
Debra Winger “A Dangerous Woman”
Reese Witherspoon “Vanity Fair”
Ellen Barkin “Into the West”
Winona Ryder & Susan Sarandon “Little Women”
Anjelica Houston & Melanie Griffion “Buffalo Girls”
Julia Ormond “Smilla’s Sense of Snow”
Oops, my bad. I meant Melanie Griffith (not Griffion)in my previous reply.
Well, Gabriel Byrne has been telling that story on talk shows for 10+ years. The last time I heard it, he added that when the famous actress was complementing herself, he had been silently horrified at how huge his nose looked on the big screen.
So, it’s somebody he worked with quite awhile back…Ellen Barkin fits, for sure.
I love Gabriel Byrne…Ellen Barkin his ex wife.
This is exactly what I do after making sweet, sweet love to a woman. Except I don’t slap her on the thigh: I like to do an end-zone dance while spiking an imaginary football (or her cat if she has one) then – basking in the fans adulation – I dry-hump the bedpost, thanking Jesus, then get in her face yelling “How you like me now, *?!!”. Now, while she’s still basking in the afterglow (or looking at her watch and reaching for her clothes), I open the bedroom window and yell “You hear that neighborhood?!! Two minutes!! Beat that, *!!”.
Also, do I need to send flowers for an injured cat? My mother can’t understand why I’m still single.
Too awesome!
brilliant
angelina jolie
they use to date
I know she’s not primarily an actress, but when I ready the article, I immediately pictured Madonna sitting next to him, slapping her thigh and crowing about her acting skills. Which I think is pretty cool, actually. Good for this woman for having such confidence.
Patricia Arquette (Stigmata) immediately sprung to mind. She seems dotty enough to do this.
But if this story has been doing the rounds for over a decade, I’d like to think Gabriel wouldn’t be so ungallant as to say it about an actress he just worked with.
I immediately thought of her too! I can hear her voice saying those words ringing through my head!
hi BG! everyday reader, first time posting.
I Was thinking maybe Patricia Arquette. The fact that they are mentioning the interview was about his now tv gig, makes me think the other person may also now be on tv too.
He was in Stigmata with Patricia Arquette…who is also on Medium.
Hi Bree! Glad you’re here! Love, BG
Sounds like Helen Mirren. I never looked forward to getting older until her!!
Marcia Gay Harden from Miller’s Crossing.
betty white
Julianna Margulies – ghost ship
Natasha Richardson (Gothic)
I would seriously hope he wasn’t talking about her since she died a year ago and it’s in poor taste to speak ill of the dead. Doesn’t mean it’s not her, I just seriously hope not.
Kathleen Turner is a good idea She’s so manish this days
BTW I love Gabriel Byrne.
Hello Gabriel, i love you!!!
Don’t let this get to you. Don’t like people whom are sooo sure about themselves. (Actress)
Thinking of you every day!
Love always, Sandra from Germany
Hi Everybody.
Well, i think it was his ex-wife who have said that.
Or why else would he wish for her confidence???
Maybe he want’s to have her back? Who knows.
Greetings from Germany
P.S. Love you Gabriel, Sandra XOXOXO
