How He Plans to Regain Superstar Status

superstarBlindGossip – Although several of his films in the past ten years have received critical acclaim, this actor is acutely aware that his fame peaked last century. Part of the problem is that while he has dated many beautiful and famous women in the past, he has been flying solo for a while. In order to put himself back into superstar status he is going to partner up with a female star. He and his PR people have been shopping for the right woman for the past couple of months. You won’t catch a glimpse of the new couple until next year. The timing will very conveniently coincide with the release of his new film.

kilmer guess is good. what about john cusack?

  • duckie

how about jack nicholson…he has a movie coming out next year

  • Sean

Keanu? The first Matrix was so long ago.

  • pfunk

CLOONEY?many beautiful and famous.. rather than beautiful famous people

  • me

    OK
    Leo DiCaprio
Shutter island comes out february 2010
    he peaked last century
he has had critical acclaim of many movies in the past ten years
Leo is connected to famous and beautiful women, well all the supermodels he’s been with and the famous acting women he dated: hilary swank, juliette lewis, drew barrymore, liv tyler, alicia silverstone, actresses and models and endless list at whos dated who.com

    Leo was a SUPERSTAR.

btw whats up with all the fake relationships just for careers sake? wtf?

    • Candice

Leo was the first guy I thought of too.

    • Let it rain

Leo was my first thought as well. Last I remember Ken Sunshine represents Leo, as well as Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck. I’m thinking Leo’s next girlfriend will be well known, seen but not heard in the tabloids, and portray a good girl image. Mr. Sunshine makes a lot of money getting us to believe in his faux PR driven cupid couples and fake marriages.

    • doogy howzer

      Yup, it’s gotta be Leo.

    • P

Leo it is. The remark that he peaked last century, which was really stumping me, obviously refers to his mega hit “Titantic” that was set about 100 years ago.

      • Cat

How could it be Leo? He was in The Departed which won Best Picture Academy Award????

        • somethingoriginal

that’s the thing, he’s been in huge films and can command respect but he hasn’t been commanding the same kind of attention he used to get as a superstar. he’s got the career down, now he wants the uberfame that used to come with it.

Shutter Island should be out by Feb, Inception by July

    • Müller-Lüdenscheid

Great guess!! I am with you on this one! Especially, because he is known for pulling PR stunts like that.

Btw… Clooney, Pitt, Jackman, Brosnan, Willis, Ford, Affleck, Damon… all out because of their long-term relationships (and yes, I do consider 9 months long term for the Cloonex). Who else could it be then who was once a Superstar? So, Leo for the win.

    • daisychainsaw

word on the streets of el lay is leo has a taste for the sistas. dude doesnt want a girlfriend. he hangs at clubs with a gaggle of gorgeous black women. not to say he doesnt want one as a girlfriend but, why take one when you can have ten.

  • GossipHoare

Val Kilmer has apparently only been dating double cheeseburgers since 1995, not women.

  • GossipHoare

In the spirit of six-degrees Val-Batman….

    Michael Keaton?

    • Plush

I like the Keaton guess. He dated Courtney Cox and was by far the best Batman. Wasn’t he in “Crash”? Another guess Billy Zane.

      • Catiebug

Plush, I shed a happy tear when you said Keaton was by far the best Batman. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks that.

As for the Billy Zane guess, I think you might have something there…

    • JaundiceMachine

Everyone knows Adam West was the best Batman.
Coincidentally, Adam West is also my bid for this blind, as well.

  • Greg

Pierce Brosnan? With the Bond films? The critics liked “The Matador” and “The Tailor of Panama,” didn’t they?

  • plum

who is single, more famous for his girlfriends than his acting?

  • robin sparkles

    Jude Law.

  • Chastity

I´m going with Leo… The critics love him, but he´s solo since he broke up with Bar Rafaeli.

  • doogy howzer

    Bruce Willis

  • stinkweed

I think “me” hit it with Leo.

The “last century” might be referring to Titanic.

    “Flying solo” is The Aviator.

  • Nikki from Down Under

I like the Leo guess also.

  • Cassie

    I would say Leo DeCaprio…

  • Ruth

?? Benicio del Toro (dated some very famous and beautiful women). Wolfman premieres in February 2010.

Btw, there are many rumours that Leo is back with Bar.

  • Word Up

Why no guesses on the female star? It sounds like she’s been picked already.

    MICHELLE WILLIAMS

    • journa

I really like this Michelle Williams guess. However, I think she’s dating someone and she has a daughter and shuns the spotlight since the death of Heath Ledger. I don’t think she would be in on this. Having said that, both Anne Hathaway and Blake Lively popped into my head. I don’t know why I thought of Blake, maybe because her and Penn Bagley are supposedly heading for splitsville.

    • Gitano

The other female star of Shutter Island is Emily Mortimer. Could it be her? That’s assuming that he’s going to try to make an “arrangement” with one of the film’s co-stars, which is what I understood the blind to say.

  • Liz

He could pair up with Cameron Diaz. They are long-time friends.

By the way, there is also a Lainey blind item implying that Jean Claude van Damme hit on Leo, and that it is known in Hollywood that Leo is gay/bi. Could explain why he’d be set up. On the other hand, he has seemed to want to keep his personal life apart out of the paparazzi’s gaze… and he continues to get the parts in movies that he wants while commanding top dollar and receiving award nominations. Maybe he isn’t the most likely candidate to enter into a sham relationship.

We could also think about someone like Kevin Spacey (who everyone knows is gay, but could be interested in putting a sham relationship out there to get leading man status).

  • Howie

With the exception of Titanic, all of Leonardo Di Caprio’s best films have been made post-2000, such as The Aviator, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, The Departed and Revolutionary Road. Depends on what the definition of ‘fame’ is.

    • stinkweed

I don’t think any movie, no matter how well done, brought Leo more attention than Titanic.

      • Catiebug

Yes, but no other movie could. It was the highest grossing film of all time. It’s not Leo’s fault that nothing else can match up. I doubt he’d be upset about that either. That’s why I’m having a hard time believing it’s him, even though all the word clues do point to him…

    • Penguin

Don’t forget ‘Romeo + Juliet’ (1996) and ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ (1993), though.

  • anon

Michael Keaton will NEVER attain superstar status even if he hooks up with Lady GaGa. (nothing against him, it’s just that he’s a middling actor, he may continue in the movie business, but his day is done.)

If Kevin Spacey puts a sham relationship out there to get leading man status, the collective wave of hooting laughter from the moveigoing public will knock him off his feet. WTF? Is this the Rock Hudson era??? What are you thinking?

  • Inquiring Mind

    Methinks Russell Crowe…

  • sinamin

Harrison Ford FTW – “flying solo”. He’s a pilot, and he plays Hans Solo in the star wars films. His career has gone downhill for several years now.

  • phillyphan

    How about Nic Cage?

  • DavidB

While I like the wordplay linking Leo to the blind I’m not really sure that he needs a date. He was with Bar, replaced her and appears to be back with her. So I don’t know how “solo” he is. Also he remains solidly A list in A pictures despite peaking in the last century and seems very picky about his roles. I don’t see high profile dating changing his career status.

Personally John Cusack came to mind. He is working steadily in art pictures but could benefit from better roles in A pictures. Adopting a higher public profile actually could help his career. I just hope we’re not talking about Jennifer Aniston!

    • stinkweed

I’m sticking with Leo. Light the BI says, his movies might have gotten critical acclaim, but he’s gotten no where near the attention he got during Titanic.

And while he’s been back and forth between supermodels, it’s not the same as sporting some big name movie star around. If someone “caught” him coming out of Jennifer Anniston’s apartment first thing in the morning, everyone would be talking about it.

Not that he’d be doing that :/

      • elf

Hey Sherlock, I think you got it right by answering all the clues pointing to Leo. Now, who could Leo hook up with? What about Jessica Biel.

        • Jane

Ugh..I shudder at the idea of him and Jessica Biel together. Also, I’m super hoping she takes up with John Mayer after JT dumps her ass.

I really like the Anne Hathaway guess. I could see People magazine fawning over that couple.

        • turdburglar

good god man (or women)! don’t even mention jb with leo! she’d latch on like a leech and NEVER.LET.GO.

  • Jimbo853OKG

I’d go with John Cusack. He’s dated some real hotties, he’s still getting good notices for his acting, but his movies tank – his last really good & successful film was “High Fidelity” in 2000.

  • yummymummy

I’m thinking Edward Norton. He peaked in the 90s, and was nominated for two Oscars then. He has two films scheduled for release next year.

  • des

BG, your blinds are too vague, can we get a “it’s not”? Like, it’s not Leo!

  • Yoyo

    Hugh Grant or Edward Norton

  • reading/laughing

I am just not seeing Leo in this.. “peaked last century” makes me think older…. plus he has so much in the works to have already “peaked”….i dunno

    • AllStar

I agree. After Titanic, he stayed out of the limelight for awhile. But then he came back with Blood Diamond, Catch Me if You Can, The Departed, etc. I think he was trying to get away from that “Teen Hearthrob” status. He has proven he’s a good actor and that he has matured into more grown-up roles. I really can’t see him in this blind.

    • stinkweed

Last century was only 10 years ago, though. It could be anyone who made a movie up to 1999.

Anything that hasn’t come out, IMHO, can’t count yet as part of his career. Maybe all those things in the works are part of his plan to get back to superstar status?

  • oh snap!

Although I think it’s Leo, how about Eddie Murphy? He was a huge star in the 80′s and 90′s and is now single, I think, with some films on the way in 2010.

  • spyglass

I’m thinking now of Leo because of the way the clues have been worked out. What about the fake girlfriend? If the blind about the cheating athlete is A-Rod then Kate Hudson will be free. I would rather she did that then have her chasing Owen Wilson again!

  • amy

i really don’t want to think this is leo. he is too famous and his movies since 2000 have all done way too well for it to seem like he’s “fading away”. the only thing that miakes me feel liek it could be him is the better movies he has been in since 2000 didn’t have him as the main attraction…example: revolutionary road was more about kate winslet, and the departed did amazing but there are a lot of other headlining actors in it. aviator and catch me if you can didn’t do as well and he was the main attraction for those.

    • noom

“aviator and catch me if you can didn’t do as well and he was the main attraction for those.”

those 2 movies grossed $566 million worldwide

    • pammy6

Right, I TOTTALY DISAGREE with the Leo guesses. He is the very definition of A-list and is STILL an international superstar (blind says he wants to “regain superstar satus”. I doubt he needs his PR person to play wingman!
I think it’s someone who had hits in the 90′s and has slipped to B list now. Someone like Val Kimmer, not Val, but someone like him.

  • [...] until next year. The timing will very conveniently coincide with the release of his new film. (Blind Gossip) Leonardo DiCaprio and the most famous woman in the entire universe…Susan Boyle? [?] [...]

  • Tease

Its sounds like Clooney-he needs a beard with some star power, no one beleives the nobodies anymore.

wasn’t he flying high ten yrs ago Ocean’s series, movie w/Katherine Zeta etc??

now nothing..no interest in his films

    • Lee

Um, nothing? No interest in his films? He was nominated for both acting and directing in 2005 (won for acting), and there’s Oscar talk for him around “Up in the Air.” This blind makes no sense for him.

  • yogi

I agree with the Clooney guess.

  • n

    Leo, choose me, me!!!

I like the Leo guess, but something tells me it’s not right. I’ve never viewed him as a fame seeker. To me, that image i the biggest clue, that sun (as well as the yellow & red colours) is the symbol of Macedonia, and Leo was supposed to play Alexander the Great in a movie.

  • lautrefemme

BIG problem with the Val Kilmer guess – check red carpet pics of him going to RACE opening night! REsembles Brando a bit too much.

  • ladyguitarstar

    im gonna guess bruce willis

  • noom

amy wrote “aviator and catch me if you can didn’t do as well and he was the main attraction for those.”

those 2 movies grossed $566 million worldwide

    • stinkweed

I think what she meant was that he didn’t get the mega celebrity treatment over them like he did in Titanic. An actor that’s in money making films isn’t necessarily a mega superstar. .

  • Newtsgal

    I believe it’s Hugh Grant!!!!

  • Rambler

Here is a source of famous actors and actresses of the 1990′s. The accuracy is arguable: http://www.movieactors.com/90s.htm

Here is a more extensive list of “famous” actors: http://www.hollywoodzing.com/popular-male-actors/

And here is a list of top ten actors which includes Leonardo Dicaprio: http://www.hollywoodsearch.com/actors.htm

Personally, I think Leonardo Dicaprio is still very famous and could be considered a superstar even now. He was in the tabloids more when with Giselle, however, he still has regular work, has a big paycheck and is off and on with models. Even though he isn’t “tabloid fodder” he certainly can get the press to attend his events without a pretty woman by his side. It could be argued he is MORE attractive if he is alone since they will watch which girl he will leave the party with. It’s the older actors the paparazzi don’t care about so a young girl on the arm attracts more attention.

Possibilities of who I thought it may be include (according to the above sites):

    - Hugh Grant (but no movie release in 2010 according to imdb)
    - Robin Williams (but no movie release in 2010 according to imdb)
    - Samuel L. Jackson (Unthinkable, Iron Man 2, The Other Guys but he is married)

But then the “flying solo” caught my attention along with “star” after thinking it was Samuel L. Jackson and it made me wonder if perhaps this is a single Star Wars actor.

    - Liam Neeson. Considering the very tragic death of his wife a fake girlfriend would fit the situation. He may be under pressure to have a fake relationship from his PR people.
    - Ewan McGregor (married)
    - Hayden Christensen only became mainstream famous after landing the Star Wars role in the second movie.

I don’t know if it is Liam Neeson, but he seems to fit the clues better than Leonardo Dicaprio, I think. It would also make the premier more attractive and involve more publicity if it were thought Mr. Neeson had moved on.

If I were to randomly guess, though, I would say Mel Gibson. A fake girlfriend would relieve him of the pressure of commitment to another woman in his life with all those kids to worry about. And it would attract the photographers like flies.

  • AllStar

**JOAQUIN PHOENIX** that documentary of his life is coming out next year. He needs to promote it with a hot chick.

He peaked with Gladiator (in 99), and has only done a handful of movies since, but they DID recieve critical acclaim (i.e. Walk The Line, Reservation Road, Hotel Rwanda, Ladder 49).

Since he became a joke a couple of years ago for trying to be an “artist”, he needs to come back and show that he’s not as weird or creepy.

  • GossipHoare

    I got it -

    Gary Busey. clearly.

    (no, its leo prob.)

  • nonymous

I know the dates don’t add up but the only person I can seem to think of needing to regain superstar status is Orlando Bloom.

  • pleaseno

This is Leo all day. The Flying Solo part made me think of “The Aviator”. He mos def is a superstar, but his star has faded a bit. Dated alot. This is him. Also he makes pretty good movies which are almost always acclaimed.

  • sam

Forbes top 10 over paid actors
    No. 8 Leonardo DiCaprio
The young actor earns big paychecks for playing in serious movies that don’t always earn out. Last year’s Revolutionary Road was a modest hit, earning $75 million on an estimated budget of $35 million. So was Body of Lies, which brought in $115 million on an estimated budget of $70 million. But modest hits aren’t enough when your star is earning DiCaprio-sized paychecks.

For every $1 DiCaprio was paid, his movies earned an average $7.52.

I think they want to turn Leo into a Brad Pitt, Pitt movies weren’t great hits before Angelina, but after hooking up with Angelina Joie, Pitt and Angelina have become huge, like a brand, no one can touch their star power, Leo likes the power of being a A list actor maybe his team is worried it’s fading, even if Hollywood still thinks he is, once the money stops rolling in, you stop becoming the first actor producers and directors look to play the best parts.
