CDAN – …What brand new television show, filmed outside the US, has pretty much ruined it for all companies that want to film there in the future. The reason? The [local] crew working the show had never been treated as badly in terms of verbal abuse, lack of respect and working conditions. In addition, a local girl was severely burnt in the face and upper body when a light exploded on set. By way of compensation she was offered a job in a city 300 miles away from the village where she has lived her whole life. Obviously she could not do it, and the production company just didn’t care. It gave her one option, and one option only.
SOLVED!
It’s Crusoe! Source: CDAN
Crusoe ran on NBC for only one season. Crusoe filmed in many locations, including England and South Africa, but we think that the location that is mentioned in this item is likely Seychelles.
No one got it right, but thanks to DaveW for the link!

Harper’s Island?
Obviously my guess is a lot later than this was published, but I’ll say the MTV Road Rules/ Real World challenge in New Zealand.
CDAN solved this as “Crusoe”. Which was cancelled pretty quickly, fortunately. http://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2009/01/blind-items-revealed_1527.html
“Crusoe” was bland and as boring as the people they cast to star in it.
