An Annoying Musician Walks Into a Restaurant

padma lakshmiBlindGossip – While Padma Lakshmi was busy licking herself, the contestants on Top Chef Las Vegas were asked: “What’s the most annoying thing a customer’s ever asked for/ordered?” Kevin Gillespie, Executive Chef and Partner at Woodfire Grill in Atlanta, replied:

“We had a famous musician demand that we not make contact, address her directly, or engage her in any way. We told her that once she could go out to dinner like normal people, should could eat at our restaurant.”

Who is the famous musician Kevin was talking about?

    maybe madonna?

  • Without you I'm just Me

Whitney Houston has a house in Atlanta. Thrown a bit by the ‘musician’ tag though?

  • Catiebug

    Sounds like Barbara Streisand.

  • Drew

Madonna – these are her regular “demands”. She also refuses to stop at stop lights when she travels on tour.

  • somethingoriginal

    Madge for sure

  • Jojo

I love that they refused her conditions LOL Who do these people think they are?! Hello! You make music, you don’t cure cancer. Yeah, it’s nice to make art, but it doesn’t make you a God and it certainly doesn’t give you the right to act all entitled.

  • Olsson

Looking at the menu (website tags itself as local, sustainable and organic), I’m voting Madonna. It’s her type of food, it’s her type of attitude.

  • LuvJesse

Mariah Carey was my first thought – even before I finished reading the whole thing

  • stinkweed

Madge, Beyonce, Mimoo, Streisand… it could be any of them. They all give ridiculous demands.

  • Oh My

Wow…. How pompous of this female musician!!!!! By the way, how does one serve a meal to a person they are not supposed to make contact with, address directly, or engage in anyway. The restaurant owner/chef/servers should have agreed to the demands and the dumped a five course meal on her head!!!!!

  • TheEditor

Gotta be Madonna. Clue on picture: she’s lickin’ something “Sticky and Sweet”

  • Ironman

What about Christina Aguillera? She is from my hometown and I heard she told her nail people that they could not make eye contact or speak to her.

  • GuyIncognito

    Aretha Franklin

Egads, where do these narcissistic simpletons come from?
A couple of hit records and you’re anointed queen-of-all-you-survey such that you command the right to have another human being mutely serve and shuffle around you with eyes and head cast downward?!?!? Whoa!!! Is this 2009 or 1799?

Since Atlanta happens to be the current mecca for AA musicians, I’m going to take a leap here and assume that she is AA, as well. If this is ever solved, I’ll do my part to see to it that all my friends and family permanently boycott this jerk!

Note to Prima Donna: This kind of entitled nonsense smacks of the step-and-fetch-it, Jim Crow demands that people in this country fought so hard against – some losing their lives, in the process. So take heed, oh-great-one, those who don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it. Devote some of your wealth to acquiring an education, you ignoramus!! And, while you’re at it, get some instruction in proper comportment, too.

  • gfweb

Streisand has done this multiple times.

  • brit

Mary J. Blige- she was the guest host on AI this year in Atlanta- the executive producer and simon and randy came into where I work- according to the producer Ken (who is very nice) she is a prima donna diva *.

    • Bobbi

No way Mary J. I worked at her record label for years and she was always great to everyone, from reception on up. She had one of the best reputations of anyone on the label. Also, Randy worked at the label with MJB too and they have had a really long term working relationship, way way before AI. I can’t see him badmouthing her…..

  • LadyE

I’m gonna go with Madonna, although I’ve heard a lot of musicians engage in this kind of douchery. I understand the need for privacy, but what’s wrong with saying, “Just treat me like a normal customer, thanks.”?

  • Jalisa

I’ve heard that Janet Jackson makes that request of her handlers…The not making eye contact part.

  • onesizefitsmost

silly musicians (+ other celebrities) and their desire to play god. HA HA.

  • LemonDrop

Musician OR singer, wouldn’t it say singer if they meant singer? Lots of singers play instruments but idk that they qualify as actual musicians….I have no guess

    • Mango

You must remember that “musician” was Gillespie’s word. Maybe he didn’t realize his comment would turn up in this blog and we’d be poring over every word an nuance for a clue, lol.
The “no eye contact” bullshit cracks me up. Do they think someone might steal their soul or something? Douchebaggery indeed.

    • h00bydice

I believe that singers are, technically, classified as musicians.

      Musician (per Wikipedia):

A singer (or vocalist) uses his or her voice as an instrument.

      • LemonDrop

major-lols@”Do they think someone might steal their soul or something?” I didn’t know rude celebrities had souls =P

thanks h00by for clearing that up for me, although a few “singers” digitally change their voices to fix how crap they sound lol

  • Thandie

What female musician lives or visits Atlanta a lot?

    • h00bydice

…actually, at some point in time, pretty much the entire R&B/Hip Hop community runs through Atlanta, as it became the center of the urban music scene well over a decade ago. Babyface Edmonds, LA Reid and Germaine Dupri founded successful recording labels based there.

Off the top of my head, I can recall reading that members of TLC; Toni Braxton; Whitney Houston; Janet Jackson and Ciara all had homes there, but they’re just the tip of the iceberg.

  • MaryMary

My vote is for Madonna. She sings but also plays the guitar (guess you can consider her a “musician”). It’s ridiculouis that people take it upon themselves to act with such ignorance.

  • elf

Madonna, if you can’t act nice you should not be eating with the adults.

You want everyone to look at you but not look at anyone. Is that passive-aggressive or just psychotic?

This is Whitney “put down the crack pipe” Houston. She has lived in ATL and I have heard stories like this before when she was using drugs. I don’t know that she is like that when sober.
There are many other recording artists that live in ATL, so there are a few others that might fit this too. I don’t think that someone just visiting ATL would go to Woodfire. It is a great restaurant, but it is not known for pulling in out of town celebs.

  • britt

totally madonna…i know a roadie who was on her tour and she made these same demands

  • wubbzy

a little off topic, but i really hope kevin wins! and my first thought was jlo. didn’t she have that totally ridiculous list of “things” she needed in her dressing room? it was awhile ago, but that’s what i first thought of.

The only popular singer that I can see being referred to as “musician” is Alicia Keys. Her boyfriend, Swizz Beatz, grew up in Atlanta, so it is likely he owns a home there and that would give Alicia a reason to frequent the city often. Also, I read she eats a healthy diet, so The Woodfire Grill seems like the type restaurant she would choose to eat at. The problem with my guess is that I can not find any dirt on her at all(other than her breaking up Swizz Beatz marriage, which might say something about her character). No reports of “Diva” like behavior or bad fan encounters. I don’t know, maybe there is someone here on BG that has met her and can tell us whether she has a diva attitude or not.

    • MizFabulous

Woodfire Grill is NOT a “health food” restaurant.

      • ~michelle~

I didn’t mean health food like vegan or anything, just that the restaurant uses organic veggies and the dishes are grilled or pan roasted. I really hope this blind is not about Alicia, but I just read an article where they said she eats lots of salads and avoids red meats, so I can see where a menu with roasted halibut or grilled duck with organic vegetables might fit in with her eating habits.
Just looking at the Woodfire Grills menu made me hungry and I’m really envying you for being able to eat there whenever you want to. Also, all my Top Chef watching friends are rooting for Kevin to win. He deserves to win the competition, and at the very least he should win fan favorite because everyone I know just seems to love the guy.

    • h00bydice

~michelle~…I think a lot of people have gotten confused by the use of the term musician: it is, in fact, a catchall term for any and everyone who plies an instrument in music. A singer’s voice is considered their instrument.

      Wikipedia defines it well.

  • Barry

anyone who keeps up with this (or has experienced first hand), this could be literally any one of dozens if not hundreds of actresses/actors/singers/directors in this industry. not enough/too much attention from adults as children and they take it out on everyone. funny, unless you have worked in food service, ahem.

  • MizFabulous

I’m a Georgia girl…and I’ve eaten at the Woodfire Grill MANY times…and for the record, although they offer choices that are “free range” and “organic”, this is NOT a “health food” restaurant. They simply offer the best ingredients they can…SOOOOO NOT a “health food” kind of place. On the contrary…they’re pretty well-known for their AMAZING wine list!

Kudos to Chef Kevin for taking that pompous ass DOWN! Their restaurant is popular enough and so fabulous that they do NOT have to kow-tow to celebrities and their outlandish demands. I’ll be in Atlanta this weekend…and because of this BI, I’ve made a reservation at Woodfire Grill because I’m determined to give Chef Kevin and his staff my wholehearted support!!

  • Leah

Kevin Gillespie is simply making up a story so he can contribute something – regardless of whether it’s true of not. Honestly, it’s such an obviously fake story I’m stunned that it’s made it to BG.

  • h00bydice

I really hate to admit it, but I think this is Janet-Miss-Jackson-if-you’re nasty-Jackson!

  • Hmmm

I thought there was something about Britney behaving this way. She was the first one that popped into my mind. These people dream of being famous, then treat those that put them there like crap. Ridiculous.

  • Laura

I’ve heard this about both JLo and Christina Auguilera
