Can’t help with the drug experience, but I think that the writer is saying the singer is covering up his illicit drug use by labeling the costs as “fruit” and “flowers”.
Yeah, Urban Dictionary lists it as expenses for a band’s tour/show after parties. Code for drugs or prostitutes.

“Fruit and flowers” sounds like it might be rhyming Cockney slang. But, I am stumped for a drug term that rhymes with flowers. The “batfood” could be a reference to the belief that most bats suck blood. And without blood, one cannot live. So, “batfood” would be a something he can’t live without. But, I could be wrong.
actually, more bats eat fruit than eat blood. So if fruit is the code for drug expenses, then I could see calling it bat food.

No, when you do your expense report, you have to put all your expenses in different categories or different accounts, you can’t have a “miscellaneous” because the IRS doesn’t like that and you need to sort things because of taxes etc. So when you have expenses that won’t look good if someone goes over your books, like drugs, you call them something innocuous like “Fruit and flowers”

I don’t really have a strong guess, just a few observations. When I hear the word “combo” I think of several different, yet equally famous artists comprising a band.

While I can see how Brandon Flowers of the Killers fits (with a sledge hammer) based on the “Can anybody tell me?” clue, I have a hard time reconciling him with the other two clues . . . Hmmm . . .
Totally late in the game on this one…but I thought the same thing when I read “combo” rather just saying “a band”. The first person that popped into my head was Taylor Hansen who’s in that new “combo” Tinted Windows or something. Religious, married, clean-living….totally him!
